As long as we avoid metaphysics, who I am is pretty straight forward. I'm just your average suburban high school geek, 10 years out of high school mind you, who's inability to draw his gaming characters and living at home with a wood carving father led to an interest in hacking trees into fantastical shapes. Fortunately, I have since become happily married and now have a beautiful baby boy -Duncan Avery Danger White (told you I was a geek). I obtained my B.Sc. in zoology about 5 years ago and when that turned out to be nigh on useless in the real world I went back to school to become a paramedic, which gods willing, will happen this April.
I said it above and I'll say it again. I am an out and out geek - I buy dozens of comics a month, my shelves bulge with RPGs and Sci-Fi paperbacks, I compulsively role-play, and I buy anything and everything dragon themed for my son regardles of his interest in it. On the other hand I bagged a beautiful wife, worked on a farm for a year, and know how to put your spleen back in you should it fall out for some reason or the other. I guess that counts as being well rounded.
As far as my work is concerned, I'd still consider myself a novice. I've been carving for about 5 years, ever since my father took up the hobby when he retired. I generally work in basswood and tend to carve humanoid figures in the round. Faces and paintng are the bane of my existence, although happily both are improving. I tend to give away pretty much everything I carve and the people around me tend to be my inspirations. My sister's obsession with gnomes has led me to carve her about a dozen over the years and all the players from my RPGs ultimately end up with a character sculpture at some point.
There's not many carvers on Elfwood so I guess I'm sort of breaking new ground. As such, please be kind. I also write a fair bit so maybe you'll see my work in the Wyvern's library some day soon (although I'm hoping you'll see it at your local Chapters or Famous Players instead)
