Mie 'Stormwing' Bendiksby

Mie is devoured by - I mean, devoted to - gryphons. And she is most certainly alive (June 6th).

 

 

I anten't dead, people! Even though you may think so. You see, my personal laptop (the one I have got all my pics on) doesn't work with the new Elfwood site - I can't even log in. I write this from my parents' comp, where I don't have any art. I've gone around and gotten a dA, though, if you want to check my gallery there. I will try to fix this problem and see if I manage to update anything and read and reply to all your wonderful comments! Stormwing out.

Some pics are marked with either OOD or WOOD in the title - here is what it means:

OOD - Simply Out-Of-Date. Drawings marked with OOD in the title are not up with my current skills.

WOOD - Way-Out-Of-Date. Pictures that are more out of date than the OODs, that is WAY out of what I can now.

The WOODs might be taken down any time, whenever I feel for it.  The OODs get to live a little longer, but sooner or later I will take them down as well, as I feel they don't represent my current skills.

So I'm Mie, and I'm from Norway, you know, the land up north that's shaped like a ham, where the Vikings and Gudbrandsdale Doles (really, they're called dølahester or døl or tungdøl) and the Norwegian fjord horse (or just the fjording, if you wanna go Norwegian) and Henrik Ibsen (He-Who-Wrote 'Peer Gynt', 'A Doll's House ' and about a dozen of other plays) originated from. Norway with the snow and the pizza (it's not true that it came from Italy, believe me!) and the Bitter Law that Don't Allow Falconry.

Yeah, Norway, that's the spirit! My family own a riding school/farm, where we live, me with me birds (duckies and roosters, golden pheasants and zebra finches, budgerigars, cockatiels and hens) and pony and gryphon plushie (yep, I have a gryphon plushie) named Griff, which is the Norwegian way of spelling 'gryphon'. How truly original.

Me, I'm born in the wonderful month of March, on the fifth day in the sign of the Pisces, in the Rooster's Year 1993. My right hand is as useless as dead wood, or maybe more, since you can use the last as firewood and a lot more, so, I'm a leftie. I am obsessed with medieval times, falconry and Gaelic. If I got one word to describe myself, it'd be 'eccentric'.

I am a great huge big lover of fantasy. It's my heart and soul. I read it, I write it, I draw it, I speak it, I dream it, I breathe it... and then came reality.

Terry Pratchett, J. K. Rowling, C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Jonathan Stroud, George R. R. Martin and Lene Kaaberbøl are my idols. One day, I will be a writer like them.

I am currently plotting down a fantasy novel with the dream of seeing it in libraries and bookstores one day, illustrated and of course written by me. 

Though my dream is to be a writer, it's an artist I am (or so this account tells me). I draw what I love the most, gryphons, dragons, and other critters of fantasy. I work in some different medias; markers, both colored and normal pencils, Photoshop, Painter, and lately, I've begun to experiment with ink and ink and pencils as a medium together.

I've drawn forever, or at least since I could hold a pencil. It began with dinosaurs, but then of course, everything begins with dinosaurs. Our world (almost) did. And then pirates and trains, which are the symbol of evolution, and evolution came when I seven years of age drew my very first gryphon. Gryphomania had started. Now, eight years later, it has only increased in strenght.

Stormwing is my web alias, an ebony gryphoness shaman of the Lar'avi-clan (pronounced lar-AIVI) of Irlatar.  She's also my user pic over there. Doesn't she look friendly?

I'll be very happy if your comment held some advices for how I can best improve my art, links to good tutorials or anything you might find interesting to tell me!
