Bryant slowly raised his head. His eyes closed, and he
heaved a great sigh. Aubrey watched, silently wondering if seconds thoughts
were allowed.
As Bryant opened his eyes, he let them roam over Aubrey’s body, taking in her
uniform, noticing that the changes of the previous night remained.
“You choose to go with me? To finally see where you belong?” Bryant sat
forward, as if he was trying to stand up. His head now faced the dirty ground
of the gazebo.
“Only if you answer some questions first.” Aubrey fidgeted
with her now purple-hued hair.
“Alright. What’s on your mind, my love?” Bryant
motioned for her to sit down next to him. She did.
“First, how did you know to look for me?”
“I didn’t , exactly. I mean, I felt a presence
in this area. So I took on the appearance you see now, once I was able to
pinpoint it there, I ‘enrolled’ in school. But the minute I saw you, I knew it
was you I was looking for.” Bryant looked up at Aubrey,
thinking about how the blush crept across her looked so damned cute.
“Second, what did that child do to me? My hair color changed, my wrists have a
strange symbol, my eyes are no longer blue but purple?
What the hell happened to me?” Aubrey took a deep breath and stared at Bryant,
waiting for a response.
“The Child is a Daughter of the Royal BloodLine, my
True Sister. She was cursed before birth and now has to forever remain in the
body of a child. Her real name has been hidden. What she did to you was find
your soul. When you pushed her….presence out of your body, she had already
uncovered who you really are. Your hair and your eyes changed because your body
has realized what powers it holds. Those changes signify what your powers are.
The symbol on your wrists is the Royal Symbol, the mark of the King Himself,
your Father. Anything else?” Bryant stood up and
walked over towards a rail and waited, watching the brilliant moon.
"So much more. Too much I don't understand."
Aubrey rubbed her eyes and wondered what Angelica was doing.
"Well, if you come with me, Lost One, I can teach you anything that you
need to know. Just trust me. Please, tell me what your decision is." He
turned to look at Aubrey.
"......Yes. I will go with you if you promise me that I can come back
anytime." Aubrey's eyes pleaded with Bryant.
"......................Yes. I promise." Bryant heaved a sigh and let
his shoulders relax.
Angelica played back the tape that recorded messages from the answering
machine. Staring with blank eyes at her coffee mug, she listened to Aubrey's
quiet voice for the third time.
From the moment the mechanized Aubrey told her good bye, she knew. Angelica
knew that she was with Bryant. She knew that by the time she reached the pavillion in the park, they would be long gone. She knew
that Aubrey was going to learn the history of her true heritage, the secret of
her past.
Angelica was pissed.
She was angry because she thought she had a hold over Aubrey, enough to keep
her in place, but Angelica was wrong and he would not be happy with her
failure.
The machine beeped, signaling the end of the message. Angelica slowly rose from
the stool at the counter, leaving her coffee to grow cold. Picking up nothing
but a small brown bag, Angelica left the little apartment and walked in the
direction of the park. She never looked back and quickly forgot the world that
she had lived in for the past decade, and slowly faded back into her own world.
