SciFi and Fantasy Art Enchantress Encounter by Dawn D Davidson

From The Book of Three, first of Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain:

A bruised and beaten Taran and Gwydion are taken by the cauldron-born to Spiral Castle, the home of Achren, a powerful enchantress who once held all of Prydain in her grasp. As evil as she is beautiful, Achren almost succeeds in bewitching Taran into revealing their quest, until Gwydion warns him of her true nature.

This is a re-do, to push the value structure further on the composition. The original was a pencil drawing, colored in photoshop; now it is overwhelmingly a digital painting. Hopefully still has the qualities that earned it a mod's first time around, though. (Thanks, moderators!)

Its just absolutely stunning with the coloring affects...It almost makes it look extrememly real. And the people are fabulous. I love the way you drew Taran! 3 Feb 2005	Anonymous	Loading... OMG this is AWESOME! Thank you so much for doing Prydain art! There definitely isn't enough of it. Your Gwydion is veeerrry good... (fav. character if u hadn't guessed) ^.^ As to the "why didn't Gwydion have a wife" thing...call me a shameless shipper, but I like Gwydion/Achren (DONT KILL ME PLEASE). They have a very interesting relationship in the books, I think. Keep it up - your stuff is awesome! Dawn D Davidson replies: "Well...I grant you that Achren's likely m.o. is to use her feminine wiles to make men do what she wants, and reading between the lines it is obvious exactly what she is offering Gwydion. But it never seemed to me that he was the slightest bit tempted by her...however, to each her own interpretation!"
6 Sep 2005	Erin E. Johnston	Loading... I still say that Taran looks like Orlando Bloom (no wonder all those commenters want him ^_^). That is perfectly fine with me, though!! This sooooooo deserves mod's choice. This is my favorite Prydain pic, I think. Heh... I only fall in love with fictional characters! Ooooohhhh Legolas!!! (not just from the movie, either!)

17 Oct 2005	Legolas fan...lol	Loading... I like Legolas 2..rolls her eyes..but I'm sure no1 noticed...loljk....anyway, luv, luv this. Its perfect, and I don't kno why, but its almost like the pic was born of each characters' perspective. Like each person was drawn after what they were thinking was revealed.....sigh....but it really is great!! lol

I saw this pic at a friend's house (not sure where she got it) and I loved it then too. Only hers doesn't have Gydion in it, I don't think! He looks great. I don't remember him from the books, but that's not saying much, knowing me. He looks a lot like Eomer. Keep it up!

I think it's now my favorite Prydain picture! both the prince, and Taran look great, and I LOVE the expression on Taran's face, so pitiful and trusting, in contrast with Gwydion's strong poud face. you did both of them perfectly! I was wondering though, should his back not be stripped? I mean the whips of the couldren born ought to have some effect.. either way it's a GREAT picture! Kel
