Having found their way to the middle of the Marshes of Morva, Taran and his friends meet a mysterious trio of hags with ambiguous morals. Orddu, Orwen, and Orgoch are some of the more enigmatic figures in these books, replete with symbolism and delightfully eccentric. Here, they threaten gleefully to turn the whole troop into frogs.

Amazing picture! all their expressions are great, but the best patrs in my opinion are Fflewddur (of course) and the witch on the right - at first she looks like a loving grandma happy to see her grandchildren, but then you realize the real reason for her smile...

In reply to Alyssa JB it is the haughty Ellidyr from this artist's 'Pig Boy' picture who redeems himself by throwing himself into the cauldron to destroy it. He is probably mortaly wounded at the time, so he perhaps has less to lose than anyoe else might.

Oooh I *really* love everything in it except for the pale aura-thing around Fflewddur's hair (although it's possible that in that weather, his spiky hair is conducting some major static electricity), and Taran's face. It looks too girlish. His arms look stiff instead of spontaneous, too. The major problem is that seeing even such a good picture of this encounter is giving me horrible flashbacks to the infamous (or would-be-infamous-if-anyone-saw-the-movie) "frog in the cleavage" scene. Ewwwwwwww....

tee hee! you drew Orwen, Orgoch, and Orddu! i always loved their weirdness...still can't figure out if they're beuatiful maidens disguising as hags, or vice versa..have had many debates with people about it too...*shrug* who cares when there's artwork like this to look at!
