SciFi and Fantasy Art Tobi and Jada by Dawn D Davidson

A new setting for my faery friends. They lost their tree in the backyard in the last hurricane, and begged to come live inside. So I took the opportunity to snap a better pic of them, while they were getting used to their new surroundings. Tobi is the curious one, and his sister Jada more cautious.

I love to sculpt, though I don't get much time for it. These are done with Sculpey III polymer clay, and accessorized randomly. I am particularly proud of the hair on Jada, which I painstakingly created by threading old barbie hair a strand at a time into a tiny wig. (Nice, but probably won't ever try it again!) If they stood up they'd be about 8 inches tall.

My pics suck Dawn D Davidson replies: "Well...I use my digi camera on macro setting with NO FLASH - camera flashes make beastly shadows, so you have to provide another really bright light source to keep your camera from flashing if it's automatic. "

6 Dec 2004	Patti	Loading... Wow... very nice. I just started working with Sculpey III polymer clay... I can make a decent snowman! Heh... yea, I'm learning... (I'm trying to make a dragon [or winged lizard... not quite sure]... he's sitting behind me unfinished right now...) Really amazing work. I don't know how anyone could have enough patients to do all that. So cute...

Mine are very simplistic little fae babies, curled up inside acorns, and I glue found objects, twigs, dried leaves, birch bark, moss, etc. What doyou use for the eyes? Are they painted on or do you use tiny glass eyes? Dawn D Davidson replies: "I use glass beads with the eyes painted on, since I haven't found anyone who makes glass eyes small enough. It's not the best system; they look better in this pic than they do up close, but it's the best I've managed to come up with so far. For really tiny fairies, plain black beads work well to give them that pupil-less, feral Froudish look."
5 Jun 2005	Quiet and shy	Loading... Cuties! I have a great fondness for sculptures. Mine are "cute," but I'd rather "realistic and cute" like these, if you know what I mean. The girl one is especially wonderful. ^_^ Are the eyes glass? I can't figure out where to get glass eyes that don't suddenly drain me of money >_<. Dawn D Davidson replies: "Glass beads, with eyes painted on. It is annoying that real glass eyes are so expensive, but I haven't found any this size, anyway."

Wow. walks away dazedly, still shaking head in amazement and saying "wow" spontaneously (What is a mods choice? Whatever it is, I'm sure you deserve it! WOW.)
