SciFi and Fantasy Art Dwarf Warrior Princess by Surya Philips

This may sound odd, but it saddens me that while elven women and females of all other 'species' are portrayed generously in the fantasy genre, no one ever gives the dwarves any share of the attention! They must exist right? Some kind of attractive dwarf woman must be out there if we are going to have hairy dwarf men scampering all about. Why don't we see them? Is it because they're short? (humans value height that there is actually wage discrimination based upon height!!) Is it because they're fat? Get over it! Consider this an exercise in political protest. There you go sexy DwarfGirl, show em what you got. PS. I usually don't draw backgrounds so fire away. Drawn freehand in pencil, darkened in photoshop.

24 Mar 2007	Teajay	Loading... There aren't sexy dwarf women because typically, in fantasy, they're just as hairy as dwarf men. Surya Philips replies: "You don't have to be a dwarf to be a hairy woman. Many ethnicities have pretty hairy women but it's just been a longstanding tradition to consider it unattractive. I'd say those dwarves who exist in the pratchett-type worlds don't factor that in when considering attractiveness."

Excellent background and excellent warrior lady dwarf! Like you say, finally SOMEBODY made one. ...I may just make one myself.... ^^ Surya Philips replies: "Let me know when you make the dwarf. Maybe this will start a movement~?"

Its about time someone drew such a wonderful piece. the background is as wonderful as the woman and I can tell ya this I will take a stout brave and beautiful dwarven woman over some frail elf any day. dwarves may be super slender and all that but if ya give them a hug ya gunna break them in two. NO THANKS. Give me a good dwarven woman any day. Any way wonderful job and to see such amazing talent is trully wonderful. Before I go I have one request, MORE DWARVES! Thanks again for the wonderful job. Surya Philips replies: "it took a while to get off my butt and finally do it, but dwarves are on their way!"

Just to correct an earlier commenter - Terry Pratchett doesn’t deny that there are dwarf women, but in his universe, all dwarfs have long beards and heavy helments, regardless of gender, and it is considered taboo amongst dwarfs to admit to being female. But I like your idea too, and she certainly has something to show off! Surya Philips replies: "Hmmm...I wouldn’t want my dwarf-women ashamed of being female. This would be interesting for their culture. I should read Terry to see how it’s all dealt with. Thanks for the comment too!"

11 Oct 2008	Christopher M Cosby	Loading... Based off the dvergar, this would be a correct portrayal, based off Tolkien, I’m required to ask "WHERE’S THE BEARD?" Modern fantasy generally portrays them as cute but rotund. I prefer’s em ROTUND.
