This is a poem that just popped into my head one day. Again, I'm NOT a poet, so do feel free to criticise and I will feel like I'm learning something! :o) Update: Spacing has been amended - thanks for the advice!

Golden Dragon

Oh golden dragon, strongest of them all
I long to wander through your shining hall
Of wonders.

Where your riches are so carefully stored
Watched over by you, such a precious horde
Of wonders.

Do I dare to roam into your domain?
Do I dare challenge your dominant reign?
I wonder.

Would your eyes spit white-hot fire in your rage?
Would your tail lash to sweep me from your cage?
I wonder.

For in this mountain you are kept in chains
By those who seek to use you for their gains.
They wonder.

They wonder if you will try to break free
Free from their influence, free from their greed.
They wonder.

Does the sun still shine, in the world outside?
Will the day come when you don"t need to hide?
You wonder.

Do they still fear you and respect your might?
Or are you forgotten, hidden from sight?
You wonder.

The answer to all these questions is "no".
You have a choice, to stay here, or to go.

No one will stop you, or bind you again,
You do not exist, in the minds of men.

Though your legend is old and compelling,
You cannot stop time, it won"t stop telling

Stories of your wrath, your mythical ways
Of fire, of blood, and terrifying days,

Where people fled from your majestic claws,
Your whipping tail and your strong crushing jaws.

Your golden scales, shimmering in the sun
Blindingly bright, you blinded everyone.

They came with swords and magic of their own
Until, defeated, your strength having flown,

You retreated to this cave of despair
Never to taste the cool, sweet morning air.

Were you real? Or are you a mere myth?
Hiding in the shadows, mourning your death?
We wonder.

Lovely poem, Suzanne! I think it's written very well. I especially like the repeated refrain of "wonder" throughout.

My only suggestion would be in the spacing. Perhaps adding spaces between each of the stanzas, just to break up the text a little, would make it easier to read. The content was perfect, I thought...no suggestions there!

44 Suzanne Collins replies: "Thank you so much! I'm actually quite pleased with this one, and it's nice to know others appreciate it too! (by the way, when is chapter 5 coming???) x"

Now that was good, a neat idea. It flowed together and was easy to read ::thumbs up::

:-) Suzanne Collins replies: "Wow thanks, I’m really glad you liked it! I enjoyed writing this one, the lines just seemed to flow from my pen without me really thinking about it...that’s the only time I write poetry, when the inspiration hits 2"

I actually linked here from Julia’s page, and must admit I’m glad I did.
As I told Julia (and everyone I can) I have (after a ridiculous hiatus) returned to the wood. SO, if you’re ever bored, stop on by.

I am, in all reality, seriously impressed by this. Keep up the good work, and I promise I’ll keep coming back.

3 Suzanne Collins replies: "Wow thank you Michael, you’ve just made my day! I’m really thrilled with your comment, it’s always nice to know that people appreciate your work.

I will stop by when I can, I admit I’ve been a bit lax with Elfwood and haven’t been uploading or visiting *slaps wrist*.
Look forward to reading your work!"

For someone who says she is not a poet, I have to say this is pretty awesome. And you most definitely ARE a poet 2

:-) Suzanne Collins replies: "Thanks Lena! I’m glad you liked the poem, thanks for stopping by 2"
