Oh golden dragon, strongest of them all
I long to wander through your shining hall
Of wonders.
Where your riches are so carefully stored
Watched over by you, such a precious horde
Of wonders.
Do I dare to roam into your domain?
Do I dare challenge your dominant reign?
I wonder.
Would your eyes spit white-hot fire in your rage?
Would your tail lash to sweep me from your cage?
I wonder.
For in this mountain you are kept in chains
By those who seek to use you for their gains.
They wonder.
They wonder if you will try to break free
Free from their influence, free from their greed.
They wonder.
Does the sun still shine, in the world outside?
Will the day come when you don"t need to hide?
You wonder.
Do they still fear you and respect your might?
Or are you forgotten, hidden from sight?
You wonder.
The answer to all these questions is "no".
You have a choice, to stay here, or to go.
No one will stop you, or bind you again,
You do not exist, in the minds of men.
Though your legend is old and compelling,
You cannot stop time, it won"t stop telling
Stories of your wrath, your mythical ways
Of fire, of blood, and terrifying days,
Where people fled from your majestic claws,
Your whipping tail and your strong crushing jaws.
Your golden scales, shimmering in the sun
Blindingly bright, you blinded everyone.
They came with swords and magic of their own
Until, defeated, your strength having flown,
You retreated to this cave of despair
Never to taste the cool, sweet morning air.
Were you real? Or are you a mere myth?
Hiding in the shadows, mourning your death?
We wonder.
