And so the graceful griffon flies
Who dares to challenge her in her skies?

High above the clouds she soars
And takes her freedom to Heaven's doors.

Up and up, she swoops and glides
And down again to skim the tides.

The clouds part before her might
The currents ebb to aid her flight.

The sun sees her in all her glory
The moon comes to end her story.

As she settles back to earth
We see the truth of her intimate worth.

For in the mountain where she dwells
In a nook amid some shells,

A tiny beak appears, a single cheep
Before if wanders back off to sleep.

Our graceful griffon, now content with lying
She cares not for freedom or flying

But for the ball of fluff beside her
So still, so precious, her only love.

That was very nice. It rounds out the character for those who never stopped to think that griffons did more than frighten or pose for portraits.

18 Suzanne Collins replies: "Thanks for the comment John! Yeah it's true, griffons are protective and loving creatures as well as being intimidating. I'm glad I could get that view across!"

people are just like griffons I believe. For they can be intimadating to others but loving to others. That is what made me enjoy this poem. It is very well written.

1 Suzanne Collins replies: "Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it!"

I like this. The lask of meter makes it seem a little childish, but that just adds to the charm. It made me smile.

13 Suzanne Collins replies: "I'm very glad this made you smile!I'm not a poet, I have to say. This poem is a few years old and is something that just popped into my head one day, so is unsurprisingly unpolished and 'childish'. However, I'm glad that you find it charming. Thanks for leaving a comment (though why did you skip chapter 7? It wasn't that boring I hope!)"

I had to leave to meet some friends. I'll read chapter 7 now...

2 Suzanne Collins replies: "Thanks Richard! Though I wasn't trying to pressurise you into anything!"

by the way, I am a writer too. I just forgot to lock in. I would be happy if you check my stuff out, too!

:-) Suzanne Collins replies: "Hi Julia, yes, I will certainly stop by your library some time. Unfortunately I'm rather swamped with work at the moment, but I'm sure you're writing will be a pleasant relief! "

that is so cute! I love it!

the style of the poem is really good, the rhymes come easy and not as forced as in most poems. but in a few lines the number of syllables changes. it's a bit bumpy to read these lines. but nevertheless, it is a really good poem!

3 Suzanne Collins replies: "Hi, thanks for commenting! I'm glad you liked it, though I'm not too sure what to do about the bumpiness (which lines were you talking about?). I'm not a poet, this is the only one I've written, so I'm not surprised that there are mistakes 2"

:-) Suzanne Collins replies: "Thanks, I’m glad you like it! I’m not sure about adding friends, but if you wanted to tag me or something, you just have to click on the little ’tag as favourite’ icon, either for the piece you like or on the general page. Hope this helps... Thanks again, and you should get some work up on your profile soon so I can read it! "
