SciFi and Fantasy Art Roc by Frances Gibbs

For college in 2003, we were required to create a water colour illustration (as yet unfinished) for a part of the story of Sinbad the Sailor. This was my sketch for how the head of the Roc might look. We had a lot of freedom in what we did, so it didn't matter whether it was traditional to the time-period of the tale or not. Here, the pencil drawing has been coloured using Adobe Photoshop. The finished watercolour and mixed-media illustration story-book layout can be found here.

I think you did a wonderful job on the wrinkles on it's snout! There are both cat-like and serpent qualities that I see. Very creative! BRAVO!! Frances Gibbs replies: "Thank you very much, Honey! You claim that I have more talent with shading, but your drawings always look so much more complete with your style of shading! I get so easily frightened when I get to the shading, as you've seen! lol. Thank you for the complement, though! I guess that when I actually am brave enough to shade, it turns out well. "
