In MY version of Nordic Mythology... Volsung Shyfter is sired by Odin and given to Loki as a gift/reward for his loyalty when he is sworn as Odin's brother. Volsung is to be Loki's protector and companion. Loki raises him as best he could, but cannot love him well... especially when the great wolf Fenrir - Loki's son by blood - is born. While as the ages passed Loki becomes bitter and resentful of the gods 'misunderstanding' of him, Volsung does not. He's always the good guy! ;) Later, when the end is nigh, he becomes torn between his duty to protect Loki, and his loyalty to his creator - Odin. Blah blah blah!
