This and the story Hunter came to me at the same time. They are both inspred by the same long and boring rainy drive home along a motorway. I have never seen a stag actually on the road, but you pass all those signs and your mind wanders.

Night’s weeping

The night weeps

Wounded cars leave
Twin trails of blood
On Uncaring tarmac.
The moon cries blood tears
Caught in bright beams
The noble stag, crowned king

Twisted screams
Broken metal, broken bones
Blood on the roads
Blood in the sky
Blood on my hands
Blood in my eyes

The night weeps.

oh wow tansy, its so simple in form yet so deep in meaning, this is amazing! i think i'll go cry in a corner or a while now...th eblood on my hands bit got to me, because i had a really bad nightmare recently of which i can only remeber the last scene clearly, there were all these wounded and dying people outisde my window, and they were looking to me for help, and when i put up my hands to reach out to them the window was in teh way, and when i looked down, their blood was on my hands...the whole nightmare was freaky and very disturbing, this poem really brought it back to life...

I really like this one.It's nice to see someone address the subject matter.Too many times people forget how horrible it is.I have always been disturbed by the sight of dead animals on the road,laying there for god knows how long as if noone cared.
