The Hãroc are the Fifth Class of known starspawn, found only on Idraffi. They are the result of 'coras' that have advanced irregularily, or too soon. In other words: yes, they are freeks. Most of the Hãroc are very misunderstood because they live in such dangerous places, have such a secret life, or look very frightning. But they are the most connected group of starspawn on Chatâr, having strong ties between each other, no matter how remote each of them are.
Narÿmalþ
(NAR-EE-'IM-'ALTH) Hardwind
Description: Shelled rider
Hieght: 70cm (estimate)
Diet: Insectivour, avivour, will also eat small mammels, reptiles and amphibians.
Territory: Roamer. Lives anywhere in the Cold Forest (Fraþârsvi) from dawn to dusk. Often with Scorda.
Temperment: Defensive/aggressive.
History: Narÿmalþ, alongside Scorda, have been blamed, mainly for the destruction of crops and the disappearence of livestock in all parts of Idraffi. The hard, exoskeleton shell around Narÿmalþ's back and head is said to be able to deflect the arrows and spears of any weapon, and his bloodlust has ended the lives of many men who have tried to defend themselves. He is wild, and goes wherever the wind takes him, so they say, and constantly looks out for unsuspecting victems, so he can take their bones, grind them up, and use them to strengthen his own shell.
This isn't true at all. All Hâroc in general have been exagerated as monsters, with the exception of Lrokignaþäd. The shell of Narÿmalþ is hard enough to deflect small stones. Though, large enough spears, and the arrows of a cross bow, and especially a bullet, are quite capable of taking him down. The shell also does not need the help of foreign bones to strengthen it. It makes sense that he, as well as Scorda would be blamed for the disappearences of livestock and crop destruction, since they were spotted so often, it just made it easier to blame them.
Being so good at hiding, many who went after them ended up lost, or slain by some other creature other then Narÿmalþ and Scorda, this also fueled the myth that the two were cold blooded killers. Unlike the stories, he rarely seaks a fight, being a roamer, he would much rather spend his time riding on Scorda's back through the wild forest then take on some stranger.
There are many short tales made up around Narÿmalþ, and none of them are good.
Scorda
Spinner
Description Shelled steed
Hieght: 1m 35cm (estimate)
Diet: Carnivour (small prey), ovivour
Territory: See 'Narÿmalþ'
Temperment: Aggressive
History: Many of the stories surrounding Scorda and Narÿmalþ are about the latter. Scorda is mantioned mainly as a monsterous steed that is said to ride faster then the raging blizzard snow. True, that Scorda is fast, but not that fast. She gets her name from the neadle like spindle she balances on. She is the more aggressive of the two, but not a vicious killer like the old stories bring her out to be. Some stories say she could talk, and that is very true, she is quite capable of speaking the tongue of Idraffi.
One such story does revolve around her though. It is about an elven boy who witnesses the triumphent return of the elven warriors from their seige, and is infatuated by the horses. He asked his parents for a horse, but they couldn't afford one. Instead, they teach him how to use a bow and arrow.
One day, when the boy was twelve (some versions of the story pit him as old as eighteen), he heard a strange sound outside the house. Brandishing his bow and an arrow, he goes outside to see what it is. Letting the arrow fly into the snow, he is astonished to find that he had shot Scorda. The boy is in awe of the great beauty of the starspawn and takes her back to the house where she is hidden away in the celler.
When Scorda regains full health, the boy takes her out for a ride, and his body is later found by the river Üklaskrin, with a great puncture wound in his chest.
Þradila
(THRA-'DEELAW) Firetap
Description: Tiny beast
Hieght: 40cm (estimate)
Diet: Carnivour (small prey)
Territory: The ruins of the gnome kindgdom of Hjälnèmè. Lives alone. Guards his territory fiercely.
Temperment: Defensive
History: It is said that Þradila was attracted to Hjälnèmè by all the gems that the gnomes mined, and slaughtered them all to get it. This story is highly unlikely, as the gnomes left after the vein ran dry. Þradila moved in because of the thermal heating the volcano offered. Even to this day, tourist from all over the world marvel at the great masonry and advanced glass-work of the gnomes of this remarkable kingdom, but they also stick around to look for Þradila. Even though no sightings have ever been made of this creature.
Rare to many starspawn is the ability of transformation, and Þradila posseses this rare skill. Even though his temperment is stable and cool, when enraged, he transforms into his more vicious, feminine side: Vôkrora.
Vôkrora
(VAWK-,ROAR-'AW) Thunder Wing
Description: Winged thunder dragon
Hieght: 5m (estimate)
Diet: Carnivour
Territory: See 'Þradila'
Temperment: Aggressive/aggressive
History: She is best known for her namesake, the great sword wielded by the legendary Gurþrung. Many tales of terror have been spun around Vôkrora, and, even though she is known for her nasty temper, she is rarely seen, and tends to stay out of sight. Though Þradila is able to keep his temper in check most of the time, it is not a scary and remarkable feeling to let her out. Often, Vôkrora and Þradila are considered different personalities, but they are one in the same, so complete control is kept in both forms.
Vôkrora returns to her male form after her temper has subsided.
Bistórr
(BEE-STORE) Little Tank
Description: Tiny fighter
Hieght: 60cm (approximatly)
Diet: Ovivour, fruigivour, carnivour (small prey consisting of rodents).
Territory: Lotrimôgisond (2.) of southern Fraþârsvi during the day. Roamer.
Temperment: Aggressive/defensive
History: Bistórr plays more of an 'active' role in old folklore. Being a creature that has said to have been the target of all great heros, mainly of the Éuwild. Many of which, pick the poor Hãroc as the loser. Those stories never really happened. They were just boasts by the proud.
Even so, this starspawn does like to brawl with other Hãroc for play. He is a good sport who loves to fool around. The stories of old never tell of this side of him. In them, he is a foul spirited, evil prankster, who hates to loose.
Also not well known, is that Bistórr has a son he named Icaltígrün. Better known as the Izang starspawn Nunzoarim.
Dorrgarir
(DOR-'GAWR-'EER) Ghostfist
Description: Winged beast
Hieght: 80cm (approximatly)
Diet: Avivour
Territory: The southern areas of Fraþârsvi and eastern Lotrimôgisond (2.) from dusk to dawn. Roamer.
Temperment: Passive/aggressive.
History: Dorrgarir is mostly considered as something of the 'bogey man', even though she's a girl. Having the reputation for eating small children, mothers would often tell their children to be good, and don't wonder away from home, or Dorrgarir would get you. There is no other such reference to this starspawn.
One thing Dorrgarir is most famous for is her punch, which she can deliver without making any physical contact. Although a flyer, she cannot fly very far, or very fast, but is quite able to walk along the ground, or climb trees and cliffs, flying is mainly a need to catch food, or escape.
Kullrásvin
(KULL-'RASS-,VEEN) Shaftbeast
Description: Worm
Hieght: 4m approximate in body length. Tail length at least 3km long.
Diet: Mostly a filter feeder. Can be carnivorous.
Territory: The tower of Míncrass located on Roknar Insimra (4.) from dawn and dusk. Territorial
Temperment: Aggressive/passive
History: She appeared sometime after the Yndrasvin Crisis. The stories created about her always revolve around the abondoned tower of Míncrass (though, some would argue that the tower is not Míncrass). These stories describe Kullrásvin as some kind of dark sage, almost sphinx-like, that she would eat anyone who came along her path.
For the most part, that is very true. She is not a picky eater, and is not adversed to eating a hot meal. She does not leave the tower though, and because of that, her general history is shrouded in mystery.
Frômkir
(FRAWM-,KEER) Blast Happy
Description: Flying berserker
Hieght: 170cm (estimate)
Diet: Carnivour, mainly small to medium sized prey.
Territory: Anywhere over Idraffi from dawn till dusk. Roamer.
Temperment: Aggressive/aggressive
History: She is best known for her role in the Yndrasvin Crisis, as only told by the Triplets. Besides this reference, very little is said about her, despite the fact that she is high strung and proud.
Her method of flying is quite mysterious. The imps have a theory that it is the use of some kind of fusion 'engine' that allows her to 'slide' though the atmosphere. Even though she is not very fast in the air, she can be airborne for days on end. Her sight is tremendous, and she is known for being able to see infrared.
Banuer
(BEA-'NOO-ER) Everflight
Description: Winged behemoth
Hieght: 4km in body length (approximately). Wingspan about twice that length.
Diet: Photosynthetic
Territory: Anywhere over Idraffi all day and all night. Roamer.
Temperment: Passive/defensive
History: Myth has if that she is the daughter of Fritrük and Ura, but her real parents are unknown, it isn't clear where she came from either. Banuer is best told in stories as the dragon of destruction, and there is no reason why she shouldn't be called that. Though she is passive, and her size makes a fight rather difficult, the mere flap of her wings, wich are huge, can cause some violent winds, and cause great destruction if she is close to the ground, and her boooming call, which she emmits rarely, is deap enough to shatter rock.
Though a beast of her size and destructive power seams farfetched, there are great trenches cut in the earth said to have been plowed by Banuer's great digging appendages, and whole mountain sides that look like they had been blasted by a missile at a time when missiles didn't exist.
Though a monster of a giant, Banuer is unusually light, only weighing about as much as a small bus, a considerable weight for her size and shape. Her method of eating by photosynthesis is a plus for her, as it would take a large amount of food to satisfy her enormous gut. Her wings not only act like wings, but are basicly what she 'eats' with, and also act like solar panels. Banuer is also said to never stop flying. Even in her sleep, she is gliding.
Slärispa
(SLAY-'REESPAW) Pyramid Child
Description: Frozen winged sorcer
Hieght: 1m, (approximately)
Diet: Carnivour (small prey), IchThivour
Territory: The mount of the Fortress of the Moon (Slivisonna) at night. Lives with the imps.
Temperment: Passive/aggressive
History: Only the imps of Idraffi can truely tell us what she's like. Slärispa hides at the very top of the Fortess of the Moon, which is in the form of a great, blue pyramid. She is second in importance only to the imp monarchs, the king and queen. In times that the king and queen are not able to perform their duty, she is automatically queen, this has happened many times over the centuries.
She is the most well traveled of the Hãroc, having been up north to the Hot Swamp, the Mountains, and the Dead Lands, and is often considered the harold of the Fifth Class Starspawn.
Hirÿinþi
(HIH-'REE-,EHTHIH) Duchess Winter
Description: Frozen winged beast
Hieght: 160cm (approximately)
Diet: Carnivour
Territory: South eastern Fraþârsvi at night. Roamer.
Temperment: Aggressive
History: Said to be the daugher of Ura. But, like Banuer, her parents, and origins are unkown. She lives a wild life in the cold, dark forests, which has led to her as sort of a menice to travelers. She perches on trees out of sigt, and when an unwary traveler comes along, she swoops down and eats their skin. It is also said that there are several ways to appease her: first is an offering of some sort of animal sacrifice, preferebly a large, hooved creature, the second is music, and the third is a peice of jewelery. An offering of jewelery never works. Music can do great wonders for her, but an offering of fresh meat is the best, she's not picky about where her food comes from. Once legend talks about how a certain king built his hall in the territory of Hirÿinþi and lost all his vasils. A brave hero by the name of Driskárün set a trap for the starspawn by poisoning a boar and setting the carcass out by the tree. The story has it that Hirÿinþi took the bait, but, as the later story of the Yndrasvin Crisis unfolds, it is mentioned that Hirÿinþi was alive and well, perhaps it was some other animal that ate the carcass, we will never know for sure.
It is also well known of the call that she gives to warn any possible opponents, and possibly contact other Hãroc of her presence. This call is said to be earie and quite haunting.
Insimrôda
(EEN-,SIM-'RAWDA) Deap Scourge
Description: Leviathan
Hieght: 2km in length (estimated)
Diet: Ichthyvour
Territory: The Vsnósongi Bay (6.). Rules over the Vsnôkràkir (merfolk).
Temperment: Aggressive/defensive
History: Said to be the son of Þrimrôda and Ura. His parents are actually a giant gas planet that has been dead for millinia and seven moons, three of which, are dust in the cosmos. He had taken over the Vsnôkràkir by force, but proving to be a very good king, even though he can be harsh. There are many stories of how he is the culprit of many shipwrecks, but the best reference that is NOT of the merfolk is, of coarse, the 'Chaos of Gurþung', where him and the dark angel Kjolþa are said to be equals.
Dlilmrûni
(DLEEL-'MROON-IH) Red Smith
Description: Fiery beast
Hieght: 280cm (estimated)
Diet: Chemosythetic
Territory: Inside the Ækvõnskiün (5.) volcanic region at any time of day.
Temperment: Passive/aggresive
History: A quote from the poam 'Chaos of Gurþrung' states:
Her prowess met by no man seen,
The rock is her clay and paint.
Dlilþârka spits on her name, but she continues to live,
As the only rival of his art and pride.
There is no other better reference then this. In the poem, she is depicted as the greatest black smith next to the mountain forger Dlilþârka. Because of being scorned as the one who 'tries to rival the gods', she is a disbeliever of the polythesist religion, and believes firmly that the only god is Crêd, the Will. She has created many sorts of objects of legend: the bracers Ünglidsaða for Insimrôda for one.
Dlilmrûni lives in the very heart of a volcano, and aquiring her help is suicidal, not counting the fact that she is grouchy and prone to fits of rage.
Morksñar
(MORK-'SNYAR) Quickslash
Description: Speed demon
Hieght: 2m (estimated)
Diet: Avivour
Territory: North western Æmàr (1.) at dawn and dusk. Roamer.
Temperment: Aggressive
History: Famed for her speed and agility, Morksñar is not only the fastest of the Hãroc, but the fasted known starspawn. She is said to have a lair somewhere the Rimlün Vally that's filled with the heads of her victems. She has no stable home to go to, but is wild, just like her companion Snargöna. Very little is said about her but this.
Snargöna
(SNEHR-GO-'NA) Slashing Fish
Description: Ichthoid fighter
Hieght: 5m in length (approximate)
Diet: ichthyvour
Territory: See 'Morksñar
Temperment: Passive/defensive
History: Very little is said about her. Several picture runes have been found with her image, but they don't say alot other then she is often alongside Morksñar.
A curious ability of hers is to 'swim' through air, not in the manner of flying, but hovering only a meter or two off the ground. This is merely a twist of gravity.
Kárþnaxa
(KARTH-'NAKSA) Sniphoof
Description: Beast
Height: 110cm (estimated)
Diet: Carnivour (small prey), insectivour
Territory: Moldoþ
Temperment: Defensive
History: The eldest of the Triplets. Kárþnaxa appears as the most cynical and aloff of the three, and is also known as Kárþnaxa the Drum.
Ura
(IRA) Oblivion
Description: Tiny beast
Height: 60cm (estimated)
Diet: Omnivour
Territory: See 'Kárþnaxa
Temperment: Passive/aggressive
History: The middle of the Triplets. Her namesake is the goddess of fear, given to her because she bears a striking resemblance to the dark diety. She is referred to as the most responsible of the trio, and the one who always breaks up fights. Also known as Ura the False.
Elrymokk
(EL-REE-'MOK) Skipbeat
Description: Beast fighter
Height: 160cm (estimated)
Territory: See 'Kárþnaxa'
Temperment: Defensive/aggressive
History: The youngest of the Triplets. He is often depicted as the more carefree of the trio, and the one who gets into trouble the most.
Hanringàsvriki
(HAWN-RING-'AS-'VREEK-KIH) Mist of Silk
Description: phantom beast
Height: 140cm (estimated)
Diet: No sustanince is required
Territory: Ngra (3.) at dawn and dusk. Roamer.
Temperment: Passive/aggressive
History: Her past is blurred, and many versions of her exist, including names. Though, one fact remains the same, Hanringàsvriki is veiwed as a wondering entity that lures weary and storm beaten travelers to her with a beautiful, but eerie call.
This call, often referred to as 'chanting', is more of a way of warning others to stay away then to come closer. She does this because she is not a fighter by nature, though, she can and does defende herself quite violently. As the name she has chosen for herself means 'mist of silk', that is pretty much what she appears to be, a being wearing a violet cloak of silk that blows in the wind.
Lrokígnaþäd
(LROEK-IG-'NATH-ATE) Lady of the Forest
Description: Beast ranger
Height: Much to inconsistant to tell
Diet: Ichthyvour
Territory: Æmàr(1.). Claims territory all throught Idraffi.
Temperment: Defensive/aggressive
History: Her reputation is more spotless then the other Hãroc. It is often said that those who seek her out can ask of her to keep the rest of the Hãroc away from them, their families, homes, herds, etc. This actually works, as Lrokígnaþäd is considered the Cheiftess of the Hãroc, by the Hãroc themselves of coarse, and she knows each and everyone of them by name. The only problem is actually finding her. Her territory is huge, and she doesn't stay in one place for long.
She wields a sharp ended staff she calls Varsril that was created by Dlilmrûni, and fallows its target like a homeing becon. The Varsril is also said to have the power to disrupt the ability of divination and any other paranormal psychic technique if the user is peirced by the weapon.
