SciFi and Fantasy Art Nienor Niniel WIP by Gunvor Paludan

I really felt like drawing something from Tolkien's The Silmarillion, and as I've drawn several Lúthiens already, I thought I'd have a go at Nienor Níniel from the tale of the children of Húrin. However, I didn't want to make it too naturalistic, as Ted Nasmith has already shown all of us amateurs how a true naturalistic master illustrates Tolkien.

So I played around with the water, fish, some seaweed and anything else I could think of. So far, this is what I've got, but PLEASE HELP ME decide what to use for a background. I mean, she's jumped from a cliff, but how to go about that. And the cliff could be behind the viewer.
Ach, the lack of ideas.

27 Feb 2008	Thomas Berndhäuser	Loading... What a dramatic scene... short before she smashes herself on the rocky ground... You really did a good job on posing her and i eypecially like the water you did here... oh, and look at all those fishies.... As for your background... in case the cliff was behind the viewer than she would have jumped backwarts... i doubt she would have done that with such grace, would she? So, i think the cliffs would do great. If you want your picture to tell the tragedy you might instead add a hint on the reason why she is taking her own life, something like her brothers face... maybe to the left some cliffs and then, like a cloud above the sea, her brothers face to the right? Just a suggestion... Anyway - good job and i would love to see how this get´s finished.
