Tag As FavoriteComment		ok, so here it is just over three years since i began to try my hand at producing fantasy art. progress has been made, by a few measures, though i see much room for improvement. one of the chief goals i had in my mind as i began this venture was to ultimately make a living doing this, as i can not imagine any more satisfying way to dispose myself. i have had several commissions in the past year or so, and more are coming, but none was more exciting than getting my first book cover, and that from no less than Black Library, under the Warhammer label! i have resisted posting my commissions here as this is not a site intended to be a professional showcase, but i am changing course for a couple of reasons. one is that i am very fond of the kind of enthusiasm for fantasy/sf art i find here, and have been very well treated, and some may be interested in seeing a few of my professional pieces. another is that i can now offer myself up as an example of someone who is a huge fan himself, works very hard, and has seen some good things come my way because of it. maybe there are a few people out there who need to see that, and will try even harder than they already are, possibly carving out their own niche. i certainly run across enough promising talent here on a regular basis to think it is possible. the title of the book this piece is a part of is 'Guardians of the Forest' by Graham McNeill. it is one of three images i produced that were melded together to create the cover, and is my favorite of those. hope you like. presented with the permission of black library and games workshop.

Beautiful work. This is a very engaging image and it would absolutely compel me to pick up this book, so you’ve done your job well! I adore his little friend (or is it a mischevious foe!) on his back.

Love the picture! The coloring is great, and the take on the elf archer is candy for the eyes! hehe! The little creature on his back -it’s both cute and scary at the same time. Scary meaning I wouldn’t want to run into in the dead of night, even if it does seem to be going ’YEEEHAW!"

Two quick things though: I believe the bow should be on the other side of his leg, and his arrows are on the wrong side. Arrows always go -unless firing the bow horizontal- on the side away from the hand. O_o; okay, i just confused myself, but i hope iy helps anyway! ^^;

Wow! I wouldn’t want to upset someone like this! (And if I did, I’d never again dare entering a wood)

A little detail I noticed: His arrows (except the ones he is firing) all seem a bit too short. If you compare them with the length of his leg and bear in mind that an arrow should be as long as his whole arm (and the two on his bow are that long), then his arm can’t possible be much longer than his shin, which would be a bit awkward.

i love this piece! first of all, i dont think the pose is akward at all. if you were in a tree, trying to shoot a bow, im pretty sure you would be in an akward position as well. second off. I LOVE THE LITTLE HUY ON HIS BACK! thats is so awsome!! me makes me laugh, lol i can hear him going heheheheheheh!!! but thats just me, haha
