This ship is kept in the air by magic, but is pushed forward by ordinary sailes. I looked at real ships when I drew this, and imagined how it would look like if they had sales on the bottom. Kinda cool don't you think? :) A bit mixed media, I drew the ship with pencil, but after I scanned it, I filled up some space with grayscales in photoshop.

Oh, god, your art design is excellent, and the line you make is exceptionally clean!! I love these kind of landscape and the details with this kind of line. Really, really, congratulations!!!

*LOL* about the: "How do they land?" "They crash..." I am trying to do a ship picture right now...well for the past few months, I have what I want to get in my head but it doesn't want to come out right! Luckily the other day I found a book with a cover that has the theme I have in mind! I was amazed it was so similar to the picture in my head! Good job!

*screams in delight* I've been looking for a great picture of an airship for SOOOOO long, and now I've found one. I love your detail and the idea for having sails on the bottom makes so much sense. It's practical AND gorgeous looking... my favorite kind of combonation ^_^

:-) Thomas Niekel replies: "2 thank you very much. I'm glad you like it."

have you read any of Paul Stewart and Chris Ridell's The Edge Cronicles? The books have sky ships (and illustrations as unique as your pictures).

Seriously amazing. I absolutely love it. Adding to favourites. I bet it can go really fast, and is really maneuverable. The clouds are amazing too.
