If I had a race of hunting cats, this is what they might look like. Ever since reading Robin McKinley's "The Blue Sword" several years ago, I wanted my own large hunting kitties :) They are bigger than ocelots, but not as heavy as lions or tigers. The markings/colors they are born with determine what terrain they are best suited to hunting in. These cats are solitary, and hunt on their own. You make friends with them, you don't train them (typical cat behavior, I suppose?), although you must get one as a newborn and raise it, otherwise you will have some serious issues.

Prismacolors, pigment liners, and acrylic paints on a random piece of cardboard :P Took me maybe around two hours?

Love the coloring and highlights. It does look like a small tiger, the markings are very well done. So is this going to be a series of pictures coming up?

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thank you 2 I’m not sure... I have to figure out how to draw a cat body first, my recent attempts have been atrocious... lol. "

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thank you! The eyes were fun, I’d never drawn cat eyes before."

Wow... those eyes really are beautiful, and I like the markings! Really well done~

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Thank you! I kind of took my pencil and added some color here, and there, and over there, and then filled it in XD I really don’t know much about cat markings, but at least the markings don’t look horsey-ish!"

You don’t own a cat it owns you LOL. That’s very nicely observed and the paper is a great choice it gives a background without even trying!

:-) A. Thomason replies: "Ha ha, yup ^^ Cats are definitely their own people 2 I saw a comic one time, where it shows a dog thinking "this person takes care of me, loves me, and feeds me - they must be a god!" Then, the cat, "this person takes care of me, loves me, and feeds me - I must be a god." Lol. I think I’m more of a dog person... but the cats have slowly been turning me 1 Thanks for the comments!"

Very nice! Somewhere between an Ocelot, jaguar and tiger18 Did you know the ancient Egyptians did indeed have hunting cats? Primarily for catching birds, there are tomb paintings of them, being used much as modern day hunters use retriever dogs1
