SciFi and Fantasy Art Bait by J. Thomason

The bait - an old, sick farm horse - awaits his death as part of a dragon trap.

The dragons rise at sunset. They hate light but they need its warmth to live, so they gather strength from it while it is dying every night and not going to last long. In the dark they can see well, and their sense of smell and hearing are very good. Like a hawk, they will kill their prey and hold onto it. If anyone comes near they will protect their food, and not leave it behind. If dragons could not smell metal, it would be a good idea to chain the bait where it can't be dragged off, but dragons know metal, and can stay away from such traps.

Instead, the poor dying horse is left tied by a light rope, which in it's weakness it cannot break. Even pulling away will not help this horsey now :S

Soooo I just wanted to ask you to look at my other colored pictures. Black and white pictures are okay, colored pictures are not okay. They stink. Enough said.

Here is the alternative story for those who are squeamish:

Poor horsey was lost in the forest and his rope got stuck to a bush. All day he waited and finally his dragon friend is coming to rescue him. WOw.

Aww... what a sad background story! o.O Though it is very interesting!

I like the lighting, and the way you did the horse's shadow. The colours are nice - I know everyone's said this already, but the red really makes a good effect 10 It makes everything look more sunset-ish somehow.

:-) J. Thomason replies: "I wish that you could see the shading better though - in the real version there are shadows coming from the rocks that you can't see here. Thanks a ton for commenting! :] at least the red worked out lol."

That poor horse really looks like it’s dying. I think you have captured his weakness quite well. Nice colouring, I would have liked to see some stronger yellow from the sun even if it’s setting. Nice work.

:-) J. Thomason replies: "as i said, the origional is not so red. the red coloring washes out most of the other colors...
i agree. however. i would like to see some more colors in this..."

I think you did a good job with the coloring. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself, you really are good at drawing.

:-) J. Thomason replies: "but if i am not hard on myself I can never improve! you have a point, though. I should not tirade myself in public ’^^"
