SciFi and Fantasy Art Playing God? by Tiziano Baracchi

This was my entry for the 'We Humans' contest over at CG Gallery

The idea behind the piece: to me one of the defining elements of humanity is our curiosity, the burning need (or so it would seem) to know what's behind the next mountain, to discover how things work and to try our hand at taking them apart and putting them together again, possibly in new ways.

There's greed and inconscience in that, there may be even hubrys (the 'fruit of knowledge' making us self-sufficient and God-like), but there's also the innocence of a child discovering the world and a deep sense of wonder.

I hope my work manages to convey at least a little bit of those elements.

There are some quotes from human history and quite a few symbolic objects strewn around, anyone cares for a little 'treasure hunt'?

21 Jan 2009	Paul Cerar	Loading... My interpretation: The scene is on a distant planet. A colony is almost wiped out by a plague. The only survivors are a few young children. They have enough common sense to realize they cannot survive alone, so they try to animate androids.

8 Feb 2009	'' AlpineBob ''	Loading... Soon ’Dad’ will have a much nicer personality... I laughed at the slide rule in the instrument tray. Those ’floppies’ probably seem just as out-dated to todays kids as the alchemical glassware. The book titles were another amusing touch. And there are some actual guinea pigs in a cage across the room. Or are those holos? I notice their eyes are glowing... Glad someone else pointed out Pandora’s Box, because I had missed it. Look below it - is something coming out of that cabinet? Just a little creepy... Great details - this is awesome!
