I am a prairie girl at heart. This summer I had a chance to see the west coast (Vancouver Island) and spend some time down there. I began to miss the flat plains and crop colours. I took a plane back to Saskatchewan. It was my first plane ride ever. Don't get me wrong the mountains and oceans of the west coast are a majestic site from a plane, but they pale in comparison to the unique patch work of colour that defines the prairies. It reminded me of a big, comfy, patch work quilt...and then like magic, this image popped into my head! It is done in watercolour, unfortunately my scanner cannot pick up the full range of watercolour colours so I had to fix it up a bit in photoshop. None the less I am pleased with this piece.

what an excellent Idea. I never really noticed how much praries really do look like quilts from above. Excellent observation! and a great execution of the idea!

:-) Tamara Turner replies: "Thank you very much! Once I saw the prairies from high in sky, I couldn't stop thinking about a giant quilt! I owe that pilot!"

first off, this is so sweet. I love the style, the colors and the idea. Having grown up in the North Georgia Mountains, I can't say I would prefer the prairies to the beauty of my backyard. I'm totally in love with trees and refuse to live without seeing a forest in front of me. But then again, I also love the sky and your prairies would give me a great opportunity to see it in its glory. But anyway, I am a quilter and just wanted to tell you how gorgeous this is. I'd like to print it and hang it in my sewing room. Can I?

:-) Tamara Turner replies: "Normally I'd say no and tell you I sell prints, but you have flattered me and it is the holiday season so yes, you print one off as long as you advertise for me!"

I liked the painting before I read the description. I thought it looked a lot like the farmer's fields you see when you take off in a plane. (Imagine my delight when I found out I was right?)

After I read the description - I found that I love it. I took a closer look at the little girl sewing the quilt - I see your feelings in her facial expression.

This touched me. Thank you. 2

:-) Tamara Turner replies: "No, Thank You! These are the moments when I truly feel like an artist."

Wow... That's really fun to look at! And it does look very much like prarie (as much as I've been through, anyways) With nothing inbetween land and sky, and I like the seamstress! She looks like she's having a good time. Very creative!

This is such a fitting piece of the wide open plains. I think it is such an awesome concept that had pounced upon you. I too, have noticed such patch-work quilt as my plane soars high over head. I have seen the patches appear as circles too... I thought that they were neat, too.
