27in x 30in, oil on stretched canvas. This is after Icarus fell from the sky and is being mourned by the sea nymphs. This was inspired by a piece by Herbert James Draper 'The Lament for Icarus' 1892. Draper depicted his Sea Nymphs as human, I prefered a more elemental approach.

I really like how the water comes off the one in the front...it makes her look like she’s made of water and she is materializing as she is coming up out of it.

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Exactly what I was trying for ;-) Thanks Therese."

Wow, this is amazing, i love the elementalishness of the nymphs especially. congrats on the mods choice 1

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Thank You for the comment Eva"

YOU ARE TO GOOD!!

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Thanks Lydia, but I have a long way to go before I reach the lofty level of being ’Too Good’. ;-)"

yea, i found my way back to this picture. i just love the take of them being elementals....it seems to make more sense to me this way. truly wonderful job

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Welcome back Lydia. It makes more sense to me too ;-) I’m happy you like it enough to revisit. You are welcome back anytime."

Beautiful piece!! Makes me want to go back to oils!! Concept to layout to execution... just great!

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Thanks for the comment Richard. I am starting to do some more oils now and take a break from the digital for a short time. I didn’t notice any oils in your gallery?"

Ahhh because I have not painted in oils in many years. Most of the last 15 years were all the black and white arts, mostly charcoals. I should really take a serious stab at fantasy as opposed to the comic book style I fool around in. This piece of yours is inspirational!!!

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Good luck with the oils ( if you get back into them). Let me know how it goes 2"

incredible piece. i love how you did the water, and the nymphs formed from it. flawless seaming! silly icarus. you could either see his tragic story as a warning to those who ignore warnings, or don’t know when to stop pushing, or a tragic tale of a boy who wanted to fly that little bit higher... 2

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "I’m happy you like it Natalie. One could also say that it’s not always smart to go against a parent’s advice on something they have a lot more experience in. It’s too bat the author of the story didn’t know that it gets colder the closer you get to the sun in our atmosphere. The warning should have been that the wax would freeze and crumble (to say nothing about the lack of air to breath) 12"

wow - I love the way one of the girls is attached to the water - AMAZING! So glad I found your gallery today on elfwood! I love this pic - I will make it a favourite!

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Thank You, Amy! I am happy you found my art too. I hope you enjoy it for a long time 2"

awwww wow. Really original pic of Icarus and full of emotion. Beautifully done, i love the colours and the wings.

:-) Tony Orzech replies: "Thanks for the comment Sam. Draper did one like it in 1892 so it’s not totally original though I am not surprised that you have not seen his version before. He is not that well known but a far better artist than I. 2 "
