| 1 Jul 2004 | Jennifer Doneske | Loading...I got so excited when I saw the title of this piece, because Simurg is the name of a legendary dragon in The Dragon Nimbus series by Irene Radford (consisting of the books "The Glass Dragon," "The Perfect Princess," "The Loneliest Magician," and "The Wizard's Treasure." There is also a prequel series called The Dragon Nimbus History, and a prequel series to *that* series called The Stargods). But Simurg as featured in these books is an evil being, an ancient demon-like dragon that was once worshipped but is now feared and hated (Simurg is that word's version of the devil, basically). I didn't know that Simurg was the name of an actual legendary creature until I read your description (and discovered that this was obviously not based on the Dragon Nimbus series). I don't know if Irene Radford based her Simurg on the actual Simurg of legend, but if she did, I wonder what prompted her to make him an evil dragon synonymous with our devil. Hmmm.... In any event, this is a wonderful piece, and I quite like the colours and the clean, illustrative way you chose to depict him. The scales actually look shimmery, as if they're really catching and reflecting bits of light--wonderful job! Natalie Touretsky (Gerie Aren) replies: "Interesting. In "real" mythology Simurg is positive, creative force, not destructive one, no matter, dog, or bird, or somethnig else " | |

| 1 Jul 2004 | Chex | Loading...it's really pretty but one ? is it based off the bird that knows everything in Xanth? Natalie Touretsky (Gerie Aren) replies: "No. It's baced on an "great-grandfather" of that bird, the "oldest", Persian Simurg " | |
