This was a picture for a contest to illustrate a book of dark gothic poetry.  The author set the rules as follows...  A forest setting (either day or night), a boy around 13 years old hiding behind a tree with a book titled "The Lunacy Machine" in front of him.  He is hiding from himself who is looking for him in the woods.  Within the picture is a creek or stream flowing from left to right.  Also, these images must be in the picture - an owl, an old woman, rocks, roots, your birthday carved on one of the trees.

Needless to say, I entered this picture and the author chose me over around 80 other applicants!!  So in the near future, look for the dark poetry book called "The Lunacy Machine" in a bookstore near you.

I must say Nathan, out of all the applicants whom submitted work to me, this one really opened my eyes. You not only brought life to this setting, but a sense of wonder and eerieness as well, which is what 'The Lunacy Machine' is all about. This picture will be highly recognized once the book goes public. The world wont know what hit them, when they see what is to come.

Once again, great job on the picture.
Now . . . . GET BACK TO WORK!

Your friend and partner; Roon M. Kinney, author of 'The Lunacy Machine'.

Wow, congratulations! It really is a good feeling being chosen out of so many people for something so special, not only for that, but for the mods choice too! Great work and concept, and I love the old woman's reflection in the water. Great stuff!!

Veeery atmospheric. I love it. Has a classic feel to it, like an illustration to the type of great fantasy or poetry books that came out in the '80s. If that makes sense. Congratulations on winning, even if it was a while ago.
