| 17 Oct 2002 | Mika Nicole Carpenter | Loading...i know I'm completely off, but I think that the snake thingy had been banished for something he never did, and now he has caught this "innocent maiden" red-handed and is bringing her to justice. But that's just one person's perception of the piece. ^_~ I love the coloring, especially on the snake-man. You have done something with the clothes and cloth that I simply can never accomplish *sigh*. Love the border too. ^^ ´Taika´ Tuuli Aarniala replies: " oh dear... There's nothing mystic about the picture.. you're all thinking too much *lol* Okay... let's start from the beginning... Christian symbolity-> paradise-> apple-> snake-> seduce-> woman-> original sin-> banishment... I really didn't mean this picture to be this big mystery, I just didn't somehow wanna say it in the start... ^_^() I wanted the picture to speak for itself... ^_~" | |

We don’t hate it! ...At least I don’t. *Nods* I don’t really know what to think of the subject itself, but I must say that I adore the colors in this one! They fit together so well, all the shades of brown and beige!! *Remembers Tuuli´s obsession to brownish colors and smiles* The skin of the snake-man is especially eye-catching, as well as the dark brown in the background. Well done!! *Jumps around happily*
| 28 Nov 2002 | | Loading.......I have a really religious family....you can see why they hate me...but snakes before god banished them from eden the snakes supposedly had beautiful legs and I guess you could say innocent back then, but maybe here your trying to say sex is innocent?...No...I think its no such thing as innocence?????? ´Taika´ Tuuli Aarniala replies: " umm... I'm sorry I dind't quite catch your point, but the thing I was trying to say was indeed that there's a bit of corruption in all of us... hmm... yeah, that's the thing, I suppose... No one's purely innocent, and we should admit it and such... Well, in any case, it's just a picture." | |
| 21 Dec 2002 | Nonny | Loading...The way I see this pic, it shows the human struggle between human sense and animal [for lack of a more fitting & less cliche adjective] urges--not necessarily sexual; other examples: the urge to be violent towards mean people, the urge to let the end justify the means. Sort of misleading, though, with the reference to original sin--the image has sexual implications, and original sin had nothing to do with sex; it was disobeying the only rule set down for them back then [*one rule* & they couldn't keep it! *urge to slap...rising...[struggles with lizard-guy]*]. Hey the lizard-guy reminds me of Dinomir, only nasty--anyone read those little Dinomir books in grade school? *gets blinked at by other Elfwoodians* ps, Nikki, there was no emphasis on the serpent's legs being beautiful or anything; just that they were there, and incidentally the serpent was a beautiful creature. | |

| 17 Apr 2003 | Mooglewire | Loading...I really like the loose brush-strokes on this picture. Would be interesting to see in richer colours though...Well, in my opinion what it means is...*drum roll* People Like Sex. But that just my simple-mindedness for you. Great picture! | |

| 13 Jun 2003 | Ziamoonda | Loading...I'm not sure at what this means, but my inpreshtion of this pic comes from the movie "Beauty and the Best". (Hee hee, you can see I don't get out much) anyways, is it about love? Or (following the same train of thought) is the girl "banishing ' her feelings for the lizard fellow and he is making her see his love. (gods, I read too many love novels) hakes her head and smiles: | |
| 2 Aug 2003 | Kassandra | Loading...Interestingly enough, I was searching through Google for images from the *movie* Original Sin and stumbled across this art (along with a huge amount of other Christian-symbolism type stuff, given the key words of the search) and decided to take a look, being a very avid fan of ElfWood artists and all. I must say that I certainly don't understand it (not being Christian, myself, and not at all versed on Christianity as a whole), but I do like it! I love the use of colors and the why you've done the material of her costume -- very nice!
Of course, everyone's adding their guess as to what the meaning is, so I'm going to toss mine in, as well, even though I'm not wholly educated on the religious aspects. I was reading an article the other day that explained the three layers of the human brain that we've developed over an evolutionary period of time (doesn't that just clash with the subject matter?) -- they're called the reptile, the mammal, and the human, the foremost being the youngest and most primitive. The most primitive, of course, relates to the sexual and reproduction urges that all creatures instinctively have (while the mammal and human deal with higher instincts). So, basically . . . your reptile is your need and instinct to have sex and offspring.
I'm probably way off the mark relating these two things, but I thought it was interesting nevertheless. ^_^ Anyway, great piece of work!
