"Metroid: Battle of the Kihunters (Updated!)" by Ty Scheuerman

This image has been updated.  I was disatisfied with the older version's dimmer colors, and touched them up while adding some glows/light glare effects and some more texture to the picture.  The stars stand out like they were supposed to, and the sky looks more like it's intended to - catching the last rays of sunlight at the tail-end of night.

Samus Aran, famous bounty hunter of the Metroid game series by Nintendo, battles the deadly Kihunter legions of the Space Pirate horde.

This one has an interesting backstory.  I got an online friend, Cuccolady http://cuccolady.deviantart.com/, to do the rough sketch for the foreground however she liked.  I did all the final art work with hers as a draft base.  Sat around for a few months with only a rough background I'd done.  Finally finished it all, as you see it now.  The background can be looked at two ways: First, the battle is taking place in front of a towering wall.  Alternatively, Samus confronts the Kihunter over an artificial chasm in space.  It's a bit minimalistic, but I like it that way.  I had a sort of totalitarian image in mind, similar to imagery in Pink Floyd's "The Wall".
