I had been wanting to do something with oil pstels for a long time... and so, I was thinking one night, and suddenly THIS picture popped into my head!  This was my first try with oil pastels and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.
This is Sillia in one of her darker moods, probably after she learned how her parents had died.  SHe sits in her room thinking, and suddenly, little lights appear.  They seem friendly enough so we talk to them, eventually learning that they are soul lights... and Sillia is one of the few who can even see them.  This, we believe, could come in quite handy.

Sillia's anatomy is off. Her heads too big for her body, and her build is so slight, she'd probably have a smaller bust. I adore the lights though- I know oil pastels are a very difficult medium to use, and the orbs are amazing.

:-) Stephanie E. Riley replies: "Yeah... I could've done a lot better... and I am slowly remastering to draw Sillia. Glad you like the orbs though!"

So beautiful...*sighs* I love the background!! I love it!! It seems like she's trapped in a tower or something...oh well great anyways!!!

:-) Stephanie E. Riley replies: "Tower eh?... Well she could be trapped in her room can't she? Whatever glad you think it's purrdy n___n"

I really like the colors and the shading. Silia looks three-dimensional and the candlelight and the background are just great!
The stars (?) in the left half remind me a bit of Van Gogh. (well - a bit, so please leave your ear intact!)

(Hehe - I just copied my comment from my mail. Realized it?)

:-) Stephanie E. Riley replies: "Hehe, yes I shall keep my ear in tact for I need it to listen with. Glad you like it so much!!! (And yes, I did realize you copied it from your mail... n__n)"

I...*dies from being blasted with oil pastel awesomeness power* @.@

I hate oil pastels mostly because they're messy and I've had really bad childhood traumatizing experiences with them! >.<

BUT I look at this and all that shading and lights and pretty lights and pastellyness is so...@.@

I aortic muscle that pumps blood through the body to keep people living (AkA Heart) this with all my aortic muscle that pumps blood through the body to keep people living (AkA Heart)! =D ...Does that make any sense? o.o

:-) Stephanie E. Riley replies: "Wow... I feel talented all of a sudden! Don't worry, it all made PERFECT sense... (but that COULD just be me me!) Thanks for such a nice comment! n__n"

oil pastels are fun! though they DO smudge on everything...*wipes off hands* who killed her parents? and i’m sure the soul lights come in later, don’t they?^^

:-) Stephanie E. Riley replies: "Sillia’s mother was killed by... the forest basically... They’re butterfly demons and have deep connections with nature. So when nature is attacked (like trees getting cut down) the butterflies are the one who wind up suffering. Very unpleasant... Some are immune to this however... Sillia is one of the lucky ones.
Now, her father had an even more disturbing death... He was murdered by a traveling freak show who had his body preserved and put on display since butterfly demons were rare at that point.
And yes... those lights come in eventually... they help her when she feels angsty."
