Well, I had a poetry project once, wherein I was supposed to collect several pieces of poetry and write at least a few on a certain subject. I chose dragons. This project (and thus, the poem) is from my time served in the eighth grade.

The Knight and the Dragon

The moon blazed bright,
That starry night,
A fiery Dragon did roam free;
And from the town,
The Knight rode down,
To do his job and collect his fee.

To slay the dragon he had come.
It was business and it was fun.
But what he wanted was Revenge.

His village once had been burned down,
Before he chose his path.
He had to get the job done soon;
For it'd been weeks since his last bath.

He'd sought the dragon,
And he'd fought it,
Many times before.
Since neither would bend,
In draw it would end,
But this time would be different, each swore.

All at once, the beast swooped down,
Fire flaming in his fury.
The Knight struck fast, hoping soon
To have Dragon's corpse to bury.

The bloody battle was fought once more,
As deadly as a full-blown war.
And the true ending was found at last;
Dragon impaled, Knight fried on blast.
Neither finding their glory,
The happy ending to their story,
Though the conflict was resolved at last.

The moon blazed bright,
That starry night,
The Dragon had met his doom.
And to the town,
The Knight was brought down,
And laid out in his tomb.

Great, this has got to be my favourite poem that you've written. I like the underlying humor in it.

This is *really* good...It's funny, but still serious at the same time... Please keep it up!

So, did the Knight win because he was buried and mourned or what? And who is the hero of the poem, I wonder? Cool, very cool indeed.

Cool poem. I guess there isn't always a winner after all.

Funny, but true. I guess life's kind of like that. No true winners just defeat.

This was a great piece of work in my eyes. It was very real yet it held to the realm of fantasy. This poem matched reality as can be seen by many as they drudge through their lives. I've always been into dragons and I borrowed this poem for my art project in school(which is a collage of various dragons done by myself and other artists.) Once again, Nice poem.

:-) Caitlin Vilcsak replies: "Thanks, Brandon. And I'm glad the poem was useful to you in your project."

I find that this poem is supprisingly ironic. The tragic ending of the Knight,and Dragon is what usally occurs when they face off. The world is a harsh place where you usally don't win. Revenge is never a good reason to do something no mater what happend that made you want to kill anything. Whatever life hands you isn't always for the good.
