| 2000 years ago in the land of the rising sun there lived a great civilization called the Sakana-jin, or the 'fish people' after the sakana (fish) that they loved to eat. They would fish day-in and day-out, every day harvesting the two seas around their moutanious country. And slowly the sea's grew empty of life. The great water spirits who inhabited the murky blue water grew angry as all their fishy friend disapeared one by one to feed these greedy human above. The ocean was deathly quite now where once the fishes, snails, shrimps and other sea creatures use to sing and laugh. The water spirits were lonely and angered and they ploted against the Sakana-jin. One stormy November night as the city slept and dreamed of fish pop pies, the earth around them split apart and the city along with it's sleeping residents slip into the churning ocean. That was the last we know about this once great civiliazion. Many people since then have thought that was the end of the Sakana-jin but every now and then a fishermen will come to shore with fantastical tale of beautiful creatures which looked like men and women on their top half but with tenticals where their legs should be. Most people scofe off these tails as drunken sailors tails and others as warnings that monsters lived in the ocean and the children should be keep away from the waves, but a small few believe that these mystical creatures do exist. Are these strange creatures the Sakane-jin? Is this the sea spirits crule joke on them? There are many questions to this story but the not solid answers. It's up to you, do you believe? This is an Aquanimph I did for Kim Van Gampelaere, a fellow Elfwood artist. Aquanimphs are copy righted characters of Kim, all right resirved. |
