| 25 Mar 2003 | Mariko Jade Dow | Loading...You actually used the other side of her story?? Good for you! So many people see her as just a heartless monster who wanted to kill... Poor Medusa. Damn that Zeus...... he seemed to have ruined the lives of all he came in contact with.. | |
| 25 Mar 2003 | Julian C. Betkowski | Loading...The Greeks really did not like powerful women, and beauty was powerful. Quite a many of their myths deal with the denegrating of strong women, often before pompous and overbearing men. It seems that the Greek men feared that women would overthrough their supremely patriarchal society, and so invented all these myths to keep them in their place. It's a real shame. | |

| 28 Mar 2003 | Sumbat Jonathan Sarkis | Loading...great piece! I like the idea of the pic coming from Medusas perspective of her own piece. great work! although I disagree with Julian up there... the grreks did not diss powerful & beautiful women. the fair Helena, the goddess Afrodite (who seduced more than many men) and the amazons are a few examples. anyway, nice work here! Jessica Voigt replies: "Thank you for the compliment, and I completely agree that there were many powerful women in Greek mythology, Athena popped out of Zeus's head for shi*ts sake. I would say that the Greek love stories are often tragic...not necessarily that women were put as less than men, but that one had to be careful whom they loved.." | |

Being a feminist myself, I feel equally sad when either men or women receive the short end of the stick. Jessica> I like the tender rendering of this drawing. It is evocative in the intended manner. | |
| 10 Sep 2003 | Elizabeth Wilcox | Loading...I like how you interpreted Medusa's story--it's a take I hadn't really thought of. . .actually wanting to be killed Also, you did a wonderful job of portraying her sadness and despair in this pict. | |
| 13 Oct 2003 | Athene | Loading...Medusa wasn't attacked by Zeus, Athena took her beauty and cursed Medusa for sleeping with Poseidon in Athena's temple. Medusa had been a high priestess of Athena before the crime. Anyway, I love the sadness you've managed to depict in this picture. Your shading is excellent, as is the picture. Jessica Voigt replies: "Yes most of us know the mythology of this event...all you have to do is view the story log under the picture...Anyway...thanks for complimenting...it's always nice to have someone who knows their mythology come and visit." | |
