Another sketch I did a while ago. At first I liked his cloths, very elegant and lordly. But now that I see it, it would be very difficult for him to move in an actual battle, with all those cloth hangings haha. Perhaps it is only his ceremonial gown.

Been a collector of the illustrations of LOTR, I had yet the occasion to visit your gallery. I must say that your art goes better and better. This picture is sumptuous, I love the creases of the clothes.

Seriously, one these sketches of Gandalf needs a mod's choice. They are brilliant, really really good. Great job!

:-) Billy Mosig replies: "Thankyou! As I said, I'm not sure whether those clothes would be practical in a real battle, but they look good. Maybe something Gandalf would wear after the downfall of Sauron or Aragorn's coronation."

I am lost for words. It's beautiful. I especially like the staff and your unique depiction of Gandalf, never mind that he probably can't go marching in all that cloth.

I'm no artist or swordsmith, but from what I know about weaponry (which is not much), I believe the sword hilt should be a little longer to conterbalance with the length of the blade (which is beautiful by the way) as well as to allow for the wielder to hold it by both hands.

:-) Billy Mosig replies: "Yeah, you're totally right. That drawing goes a bit back, and I've learned recently that the hilt should be long or heavy enough to counterbalace the weight of the blade. If I ever go back to this drawing, I'll surely be correcting that detail. But I'm glad you liked everything else! Thank you for your comment!"

Just looking at his face, he perfectly fits my image of Merlyn from T.H. White's The Once and Future King...

With that out of the way - absolutely stunning. (But you knew that already) You certainly have a gift of making your pieces mesh. Many illustrators are good at gowns or armor or landscapes, but you seem to be able to pull it all together in a truly professional way.

Lovely. 2

Totaly agree on the ceremonial outfit thingy. Oh, and what's with the sleeves?
