A pencil drawing of a younger Teela Darkstalk, done as a character concept some years ago.

In fantasy, I tend to prefer the 'low fantasy' style, exemplified perhaps by the work of Fritz Leiber, Jack Vance, C.J.Cherryh, Mary Gentle and others, dealing with 'ordinary' people and smaller (though still extraordinary) events. I love the minutiae of their created worlds and I always try very hard with my fantasy creations to convey a very believable reality and real people with flaws and imperfections - not too many chainmail bikinis and supermodel warriors!

I really like the practicality of Teela's clothes and acoutrements in this picture...

Pencil on cartridge paper, original approx 430mm x 290mm.

Year, she looks so practical, strong woman...Maybe that why when I look in her one eye I feel a grate sorrow and tiredness...I think she needs help more than many helpless ones.Poor practical lonely creature

1 Jon Dixon replies: "Oh believe me, she doesn't need help! Still, she might be a bit lonely - but would never admit it!"

Ohhh More Teela...

I'm really starting to like this character...

the shading is perfect- to much to take in- its almost photographic, you are by FAR one of the more gifted artists in Elfwood and I dare the one who says otherwise.

3 Jon Dixon replies: "Thanks Shiri. There'll be some more Teela along at some time, I'm sure."

Unbelivable details. It's even more real than the Reality. Damn, when will i do something like that? Teach me ! ! !

1 Jon Dixon replies: "Very well. First, young disciple, you must give up all your worldly goods and travel to the furthest reaches of... Wait, where are you going? Hello? Ummm... <sigh>."

Wow!Fantastic! Would you draw some characters of jack vance's novels? Pleaaase????

3 Jon Dixon replies: "Oh, I LOVE Jack Vance's stuff, particularly the 'Dying Earth' books. I am in awe of him as a writer. Perhaps I will one day. "

I always come back to this picture from time to time. Its just so beautiful. This look is what I am striving for in many of my pictures.

:-) Jon Dixon replies: "Thank you so much for the lovely comment, Frida. And so sorry for the lateness of the reply. I don't check back here nearly often enough. I think your character Lindsey is very like Teela (perhaps they'd be friends if they ever met!). You have a great gallery yourself, with some beautiful work. I also like the Shakti pictures a lot! Thanks again for the comment."

This is great. I like her. She seems a little insane when you look her eyes, eh... eye, I mean.

As a fantasy caracter I a hard time placing her. Is she simply a traveller? Possible, but where is her pack of travelling gear?

Is she a warrior? She lacks armour, and a sword or axe or the like, but a dagger is deadly to, if you know how to use it. And dodging is better than conventional armour.

Is she a "Rouge"? That lovely catch all term. seems reasonable. But all humans are a little roughish at heart.

Is she a wizard? I see no spell-book, but perhaps magic is in her blood, and she don't need one.

What ever she is, you can be sure that she is not what you think. All in all, a fantastic picture.

im not sure why it came to mind. but when i say this pic i was thinking to myself " Oh god its like one of those chicks that you come up behind and, and whistle at and then they turn around and you catch a glimps of their face that doesnt match the body they have, and you shiver and walk away"
nicely one. i envy your art work. i wish i could get as realistic. plus i can’t seem to draw in ink without messing up. i always have to have some kind of eraser incase of mastakes.
