Another drawing of Tragin the Trickster, done as a character study some years back. I think he looks particularly piratical in this one, and I'm quite proud of his wonderful beard (as he is too, I'm sure!! - though he seems to have shaved it off by the time I did his CG portrait in this gallery!)

I used some photo references for this drawing - dressing up in approximations of the clothes I wanted for him and taking pictures with a remotely-triggered camera. Although the final drawing usually differs hugely from these photos, I find that it's the easiest way to get complicated things like the folds of clothing right - I could never have 'made up' the creases in his sleeves here for instance.

Pencil on cartridge paper, original approx 430mm x 290mm.

Nice to see some new updates.
I think this one is my favorite one! Itīs really amazing how you done all those details. And his expression is fantastic.

:-) Jon Dixon replies: "Thank you very much, Julia. Glad you liked him!"

OMG mister! I was right when I followed my instinct to check out the rest of your gallery to see what you have done in traditional medium! Love those sleeves, and wrinkles are hard to do aren't they? He looks so real, and by real I mean not super prettified, too many of those here and I have contributed to that... <2 Again, AWESOME pencil work!

:-) Jon Dixon replies: "Many thanks again, Jenny. You're very kind!"

Hmmm he sure looks jolly- the cg is kinda scary... I really like the way the leather came out, something I really noticed about your work is the texture work, especially leather and fur...

3 Jon Dixon replies: "Yeah, I think that texture is REALLY important in bringing a drawing to life and giving it its own reality. Thanks ever so for noticing."
