On leaving school, I spent twenty years as a professional actor.

During those twenty years, like most actors, I had to have a 'second string' to keep myself solvent in the lean times between acting jobs. Mine was illustration. Drawing and painting, as well as writing, mostly in the SF and fantasy genre, were for me a way of giving all my imaginings a physical form in the 'real' world. On a whim one day I sent some drawings to Games Workshop's fledgling gaming magazine 'White Dwarf'. To my amazement, they were accepted, and I began a sporadic but interesting second career as an illustrator, producing both colour and black-and-white illustrations for magazines, paperbacks and games.

In recent years I've been doing more and more work in the digital medium, using the computer to create my artwork. I'm still using art as a way of trying to share with others the people and the worlds that populate my imagination.

If you like these pictures, please take a look at some of my writing in the Wyvern's Library, where you might learn more about some of the same people and places that are depicted here!

I'm completely amazed by your work!

I've been thinking about doing some black and white work recently, and looking at your stuff has totally restored my faith in it (been through a wobbly patch recently. LOL!)

Keep up the good work! ^_^

3 Jon Dixon replies: "Thanks Megan. I know those wobbly patches all to well. I'm very glad that these pics might have helped in a small way to get you back on the creative track. Black and white art has its own special discipline and technique, I think, but when it works it really has the power of simplicity. Hope you get your creativity going and do some great work. I'll look forward to seeing it!"

Words have no relevancy here. It's difficult to speak when your mouth cannot close.

1 Jon Dixon replies: "Even more difficult to whistle! Or to hum. Or... Seriously, thank you for the lovely comment!"

I very much appreciate your going low-fantasy, and all the detail you manage to go into is impressive. I read one of your story intros (the one about mists) and found that your sense of detail isn't limited to drawing only... but let me go there and comment instead. Thanks for showing your work, I enjoy it lots!

:-) Jon Dixon replies: "Thank you, Peder,

I've responded to your comment on my story in the Wyvern's Library. I'm happy that you enjoyed my work both there and here. Thanks again"

Hi, I think that your stile is awesome. Do you have any favourite artists here on elfwood on your own?

12 Jon Dixon replies: "Hi Arl, and thanks so much for the comment. I have too many 'favourite' artists here on Elfwood to possibly name!"

I just had to stop and comment. I couldn't choose just one picture because they were all amazing.

I love that you can evoke emotion into your characters. I bet it helps that you were/are an actor.

Your drawings just feel real. I clicked on Tragin randomly and just had to scout out the rest of your gallery. I love the woman howling at the moon. That one is gorgeous!
