"And that top story again. Small squads of lightly armoured Earth-coalition troops supported by A-30 Beholders and B-306 Strikers have begun to systematically re-take the spaceport, held by enemy troops since their main invasion force arrived earlier this month. Further information is not available due to a media blackout"

A while back I asked the great Lanz if I could do a version of one of his fantastic battle scenes. And after months of fighting with no loss of life the result can be seen here. With, hopefully, a link to the original here: =>> Battle

Appendix: things to notice: 1) fog hiding the left buddy's legs; 2)the heavy plated look of the spaceships. 3) I don't agree very much about the lack of claustrophobia here, but surely the green armour make me think of a jungle-like environment while when I did my picture I was thinking about a merely sci-fi urban one.

45 Dave Cripps replies: "1) A little accident can easily be hidden 102) Did you agree with the look? I thought perhaps they weren't as normal aircraft ie: they can hover and fly about like helicopters or something like that so could be heavily armoured.3) Ah as I painted them I thought perhaps a grey/urban camo design would be better. But if they had just fought their way into the city they wouldn't have much chance to change. But maybe it changes itself due to the environment?I'm glad I didn't disappoint too much. And thanks again for letting me loose on it 2"

Yuppy! Here is my comment and sorry for the (unintentional) delay (will you forgive me for this?). I didn't expect the armors to be green but the color is very well chosen. Well, paint is always a richer media than pencil and you're giving me a lesson in painting. I really like the shading and, in general, the sense of volume that it gives. The proportions suit perfectly to those of my picture and I am grateful for this.
The skull near the writing is like a kick in the butt for a superstitious person like me; maybe this is due to the fact you surely hated me for the amount of work you felt forced to perform in order to keep your word of re-making my picture.
So, in conclusion, apart from the picture quality itself, I also appreciated the fact you kept your word even if I now feel a little bit in debt. Well, maybe I could return the favor doing a re-make of one of your works (I've already put my eye on the one entitled "Improbable dagger"...eheh!

1 Dave Cripps replies: "Lanz! Glad you (almost) like it. As for the skull I meant no disrespect it just appeared, skulls can be very potent symbols etc.. (Cross fingers)at least I didn't shout Macbeth!"

It's freaking well detailed! Good job!

45 Dave Cripps replies: "I have the Great Lanzoni to blame for that! 122 Thanks"

We are mates, aren’t we?

45 Dave Cripps replies: "Why do I get the feeling there’s another question here? How much money do you want?... Yes Lanz what can I do you for?"

No hidden questions this time, I just stopped here and notice how every time I watch this picture it seems to me more beautiful. But, man, if you like to see some hidden meaning, well, maybe it could be something about some face in some picture of yours which could be erased with an eraser, re-done, and re-published...

45 Dave Cripps replies: "Go on Lanz say it. You don’t like Colin. Hey he’s a Gnome he looks like that. Mmmm OK. I have a nice blood soaked scene in the pipes here. And no Gnomes included. "

I leave other people to judge Colin. To be sincere, I was talking about this actual picture. Surely this soldier wouldn’t have been admitted to the military career because of his hell big nose. It really gives a weird look to the piece, believe me. Maybe you only wanted to do some humor here but personally, I would have put him a full helmet (maybe with a little hole for the cigar)., the result would have been much better. However, the job is finished, it can’t be changed no more and it remains a very good picture in my opinion, but please take this one as a constructive criticism for the future.

45 Dave Cripps replies: "Colins’ nose has truly been put in it’s place. LOL please feel free to criticise all you want Lanz. As for big nosed soldiers... no one mention General de Gaulle... oo la laa what a nez!"

What about The Duke of Wellington?

:-) Dave Cripps replies: "Known as ’Nosey’ to the troops. It was in Sharpe so it must be true. Although a portrait of him looks a little like the great Roy Castle."

Very nice violent and disturbing picture! if the word nice quite fits...? O.K. very artistically rendered violent run down war zone at the spaceport- nice to know we remain true to our natures once we go into space! After all , what is the first use of new technology? Figuring out a way to kill people with it!
