I tried out dozens of different hairsstyles and this LotR one really works best But ok, maybe a comment about the picture is more interesting than rambling about hairstyle: I really like the colors you used here, as well as the costume and the clouds in the background. The only thing that could be a bit improved would be a darker shadow around the edge ot the treetrunk for showing that the elf and the truk really stadn on the ground, and is nor floating somewhere in the air. But despite this the picture is an excellent combination of digital and traditional art. Daniel Wilke replies: "You are right about the background. I wasn`t very thourough with it..."

According to one source, elves thought of hair as very erotic. Like the Arabs. That's why the prettiest ones have long hair (And Tinuviel could control her hair).
Anyway, it's pretty spiffy. Although he reminds me more of a Rohirrim. I always pictured Elves as strong, but not muscular. Also, only elves with Vanyarin blood would have blonde hair. Sooo...it'd be more likely that'd he'd have darkish hair.
But besides that, it's quite spiffy ^_^

| 31 Jul 2004 | Anonymous | Loading...Why elves have the same hair style? Perhaps its because it looks good against their pointy ears...?
I like this picture, good work..

I should know I have hair down to my waist. you can use a part you can have a pony tail you can braid it you can tuck it behind your ears. etc. etc. etc. But it's a nice elf.
| 28 Apr 2005 | Stephanie | Loading...My theory is that the reason all of the elves and hobbits (if you'll notice) had a little bit of hair in front of their ears was to help hide the seam from the prosthetic ear they had to wear to make them pointed. I know, not a very romantic reason, and not terribly related to the books but... It makes sense in a Hollywood sense. The reason the elves wore their hair down was probably to exadurate it's length and give them another difference from the humans. With so many cultures to deal with in the movies they had to keep the different groups somewhat uniform so that the normals who weren't obsessed with the series would be able to tell them apart. Anyway, that's my theory, I guess we'll never know the real reason. All that aside... I love your artwork and find myself coming back to look over your stuff regularly to see if you've posted anything new. I'm still trying to figure out how you can draw perfectly straight hair and make it look real, I can manage wavey or curly, but straight always looks... flat.

Anywho, I think he's gorgeous, but his eyes are very unfocused. I love the vividness of the colors, and the way his eyes seem to well... glow.
