SciFi & Fantasy Artwork by Steph Laberis

Steph just got her BFA in illustration and is currently a toy designer at Hasbro. She has loved drawing unicorns ever since she saw 'The Last Unicorn' when she was 4 and enjoys medieval art, puppets, elves and toys. Steph hopes to make props for film and theater someday, and really wants a small house with a big yard and a horse.

Your work is awesome and I hope that you will show much more of it. As it seems at your homepage there are some new puppets in work. And one day I have to get some of this Super Sculpey stuff... Keep up your great work and let's see much more!

Beautiful gallery! I would like myself to start with sculptures of clay, but I really don't know where to start... What kind of clay do you use? Where do you get the clothes from? Textile-shops? Or the hobby-store? And the hair? 16
Thanks for your answer 2

:-) Steph Laberis replies: "The kind of clay I used for the puppets (except the mouse/rattie) was Super Sculpey, the infamous, strong oven-hardening clay. The mouse's head is Paper Clay, another super-strong and light weight clay which air dries. The mouse's hands and feet are epoxy putty, which hardens like steel (it had to be that strong so I could animate her). I made the clothes from scratch but just looking at a normal-size kimono pattern online and scaling it down. I just got the fabric at a fabric mill.If you really wanna get started, the book I reccomend for you is "Fantastic Figues" by Susan Oryan (spelling?). It has wonderful how-tos on sculpting, making bodies, clothes, etc.Email me if you wanna know more! And THANK YOU for the comment!"

*bows* I just love your works! I wanted to sculpt... but i don't think we have the materials in this country. (or, well, i just might not be looking harder. lol) Your creations are inspiring, tho! Very expressive and lively..

Wow, excellent work! I just happened to catch one of your pieces from the "random" section on the frontpage. Your level of detail and expression really is extraordinary.

(And here's an odd/random question: Are you the same Steph from ConceptArt? If so... I love your work -there- too.)
