This was written with a serious of other fire-related poems. It reflects the feelings of someone in love with a Dragon.. a creature to whom no mortal life can be permanently linked, as it may seem.

Your soul burns fiercely for this.

Your heart aches, waiting to connect with mine.

Your breath is hot on my cheek,

But it does not scald –

Flaming beast that you are,

Burning for only one desire.

Do your eyes become cold and dead

When I do not bless them with my tears?

Does your altered body become weak

When my soul is not there, within yours?

Ah my dragon,

Each breath of yours hangs upon the cold air,

Awaiting each next lingering kiss.

And fiercely does the fire of your heart rage,

Until its glowing embers tumble forth

To encompass me,

And like an angry brush-blaze,

Your power spreads and my own soul begins to burn.

My tears fall from your eyes

And lie hissing and spitting upon your skin,

Faded shadows of the feelings that now flood my heart.

And when you change –

Swelling in your lordly power,

Can you not take me with you,

That we may fly together upon the skies?

These embers of yours that light up my soul

And glimmer brightly in my eyes –

Let them give me wings

To fly beside you.

But still your heart wrenches away from mine

And irretrievable emotions are swallowed in flames.

My soul is left in blackened tatters…

And my body aches for its loss,

Like a fire left without fuel,

I shall die without this –

Your Dragonbreath…

Whoa...
That's the only sentiment that can fully exclaimate the power of this one. Love and passion and magic, all bound into a single roll, and then accented by your increasing command of language...
Also, I believe that poems have a tendency to reflect the world of their writer. Therefore, it would seem that someone is in love...or lacking it.

So, a simple blessing: May you never be without the warmth of Dragonsbreath.
