| 27 Dec 2001 | Jacob S. Wendel | Loading...Five things, mostly about shadows. First of all her ear looks broken or at least wrong in some way. As it is now it seems to be pointing down. It COULD point down, although that wouldn't be very natural. Second, most of her shadow seems to be missing. The hands cast a shadow, but not her body. Third, both she, the axe and the other person casts shadows, but the grass doesn't. Fourth, the part of her tunic (or whatever that thing is called) hanging below her looks.. wrong in most ways. And fifth, the light source in the picture is hard to define. All shadows cast on the ground are in the same direction, but both their position and their sharpness (indicating a rather strong light source above them) doesn't fit with the shadows and shading on the characters. Oh, and as a sixth remark her cuirass is too tight. To offer protection she needs thicker metal, and normally you also wear some sort of padding under the armor. Despite this, the overall picture is quite good, and I like both the "evil" characters hair, the design of the axe and the decorations on her collar and pauldrons. Edward P. Woo replies: "I do have quite a few issues with this particular piece, but there are some things I can explain. The ears pointing down are sort of a holdover of when I was watching some anime. Some elves or characters with long ears seemed to be able to move their ears according to their emotional state, so the ears pointing down were supposed to indicate a fearful state. The armor is a bit tight in retrospect, but she's a healer in the game I had her in, so she wouldn't know so much about what she's supposed to wear It may not appear so, but she does have some padding underneath it, in the form of the blue garment she is wearing. Most of the lighting and coloring issues are still the fault of my timidness when it comes to using color. I still much prefer B&W." | |
