Jenny:
The Elf's Maid
A strange, barefoot elf came to me
Grey-eyed and long hair
He spoke poetry
In my mind
In my ears
Gave me books to read
Introduced me to Jack
Showed me quiet places
Under the trestle
By the river
To think
He had more energy than my
ADHD, red-haired brother
We drank a fifth of Old Crow on
Our trek up a Ouachita Mountain
To a vacant, hollow fire tower
We painted skeleton trees,
We vandals
We bad animals
And I fell where there were no stairs
We sat in my room
On my bed on the floor
Got stoned on homegrown tops,
We sat in my roommate's bed
And got drunk on
liquor and looks,
We sat on his
delicious-smelling
Buddha-bed,
Drinking and smoking
Until he was on top
Of me, trying to
Climb inside
I stopped him then
And his girlfriend
Came home
Damn his pointy ears.
I like her.
