You've got a serious attitude problem, bud. While your work is better than some I've seen in Elfwood, you're not nearly good enough to be so pretentious. "Simplistic comic style." You sound like an ignorant snob. There are good and bad artists in every genre and style, but to passively dismiss an entire genre, one so integral to modern Japanese culture, I can only assume you're a racist. Sorry, but what you said is ONLY a stylized, pseudo-intellectual version of "Manga 5ucks," which also makes you a hypocrite. I would start going through the list of legendary manga and anime artists and their works (start with Koike and Kojima's "Lone Wolf & Cub"), but I'm sure it wouldn't matter since you're clearly an Occidental elitist in the frame of mind of "west is the best, to hell with the rest." No need to respond, I won't be coming back here. I'm at least content knowing you're probably stubborn and ignorant enough to continue committing social and professional suicide. George Bryerton replies: "My, you do have a lot of anger to get out of your system don't you. It seems that, based on a comment that I made in your gallery - one in which I praised your style, as I recall, you have dissmised me in my entirety. What have I done to deserve such an outpouring of malice? My comment was not made with the intention of dissmissing Japanesse culture as a whole as unworthy of a second glance, as it seems you have imagined. I stated that I do not "usually" enjoy the manga style of art. There are indeed manga artists whose artwork I have enjoyed. My comment was intended to inform you that amid a sea of people who seem to simply copy what has already been done a thousand fold times, your style and originality has marked you as outstanding. I base my enjoyment of art on originality and style, not race or culture. I am sorry if you somehow find this insulting. However, I am angered that by my simple show of enjoyment of your art you choose to use it as a political soapbox to condemn those whose artistic choices don't align precisely with yours. Have you ever heard the phrase that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Every person is free to choose what they like and why they like it. I'm sorry that based on my one comment that you have passively dismissed me and others like me who enjoy art differently than you do, and I hope that you manage to get your anger problems worked out someday."

Now to comment on your work for real, I have looked at it now, your work is rendered very well with lots and lots of details, you do interesting costume designs as well, and I like the genre of subject matter you work with alot. I can see you put lots of time and effort into each peice, your proportions need a great deal of work and can be fixed by simply practicing the human form over and over with the help of an anatomy instruction book, You need to learn values and composition as far as shading and contrast goes as well. to many midtones with not enough lights and darks. I like the painting that is on your thumb nail, thats what drew me to this Gallery to begin with, your colors are nicely done. Have you ever had any formal training or just learned all this on your own? You do a better job also it seams when you use a model. I can tell the difference where you do and where you don't. Anyhow, this is what I should have wrote to begin with, thats what this is all about anyway, commenting on each others art work. Over All, I like it, and keep up the work.

Its just rare, but I do see it on occasion and do appreciate the style, and have even for fun done a few drawings myself in that style, so for those who think I have judged the entire genre, You are wrong and I appologize. I just think Manga is over done and the majority of it now a days is crap.

As far as the comment you got on April the 29th in regards to Japanese Culture.. I have two words "CRY BABY." That little rant he went on was one of the most childish and immature things I ever read and easily a way to read into his inner psyche. This person obviously can't draw realism so takes the easier route into manga, and is very upset that you can draw American or Euro Style Realism. Way I see it Manga is its own art form and some of it is very original and good but the Manga style seams to have taken over youth culture and kids are wearing it out and not expanding themselves to other forms of art. I like any good art, I don't judge on a genre, but the Manga genre as a whole is not that good. and is rather simplistic and easily drawn. It takes way less time to render out a manga figure than it would a western art figure and They Call us Fat Lazy American's.HA

So glad to see that you're putting your work up on display. Are you getting any paying gigs yet?
I think I need to join Elfwood. Is it free? A lot of the "free" sites I used to be on are no longer free. Not that I was making any money off of them.
Give us a buzz if you get a chance.
