Many died that day. Thousands lay slay'n beside him as he looked for any sight of life. Ravens flew over head begining to scavenge from the corpses that lay on the bloody feild. The wounds to his chest and back would surly kill him. There was nothing he can do but awaits death to claim him.

In response to Joseph Gnemmi- It wouldn't be a victory really, I mean neither side survived. Yeah, he was the last one standing, but he'll die probably an hour later... So it would be more of a draw or maybe even a defeat to both sides.

In response to picture- Beautiful picture, actually one of the best I've seen. A lot of the other pictures I see have a group of young, buff 17-year-olds with giant swords slaughtering orcs; similarily, the young heroes have not a mark on them aside from maybe a scratch or two. This shows real battle, actual war. That warrior definetly looks hagridden and wounded. Good job, keep up the good work!

The young man gritted his teeth, sinking to his knees and clinging grimly to his planted sword as another wave of pain washed over him.

[Gods take this stupid, stupid war,] He swore to himself. The stench of decaying corpses wafted into his nostrils, and the man retched, eliciting another wave of crushing agony from the dual shafts embedded in his back.

The bodies of the surrounded him like a metal-entombed sea. His vision swam as he lifted his head, squinting through soaked bangs at the devastation around him. The man he'd just gutted, lying at his feet, gave a final thrash, gurgled, then lay still in the silence of .

The man looked around blearily ar the battlefield around him. Wind whistled quietly through the armor of corpses, and not a living sould remained upon the battlefield. Each side had killed the other, fully and completely. The realization that he lasted the longest of them all gave no comfort to the slowly dying soldier.

The man at his feet had been upon his own a few moments before, glaring at him through the hellish narrow visor of his heavy armor. The opposite man had swung, then shouted in surprise as the soldier ducked under the head-height blade and cleanly skewered the man in the gut, disembowling him. The soldier wrenched his blade free of the dying man's armor, then craned his back instinctively as an arrow thudded into it. He began to turn, but was hit by another arrow. Gritting his teeth, knowing he was soon to be finished off, the soldier yanked out his dagger and glanced back, then threw it end-over-end to stick in the cunning archer's throat. The archer dropped his bow, pawed at his throat, and collapsed.

...now, as his vision began to darken, the soldier knew that no man would leave this cursed, soaked field. No runner to bring news of the mutual defeat. The truth of what happened this day would die with him, he knew.

Vultures began wheeling overhead, eyeing the soldier as he painfully drew in a breath, the simple act sending waves of searing pain up his back and blocking his throat in the process, reflexively.

[So be it,] the soldier thought fuzzily as the world began to darken. [Let the gods see our deeds this day, or the heavens fall.]

With that final mental epitaph, the soldier grinned weakly. His eyes fluttered a moment, then his arms failed him and he slowly slid down the length of his planted sword, finally resting on top of his downed foe to become the final corpse of battle, one gauntleted hand still resting on the hilt of his sword.

*sniff* Sorry, sometimes I'm struck by random fits of writing when I see something inspiring. ^_^

Before u decide to make the colored version u may consider expanding the field of corpses a bit to the left, in order to give us the impression that the batlefield goes on and on. And put a lot of corpses in the lower parts of the hills, far to the right with a standard or two.
Oh, and sky should remain pale, like in a foggy day.

Incredilble picture.Impossible for people like me to draw,
u realy have a lot of patience with ur pencil.

I realy hope u make the final colored version, it will be my wallpaper, so make it big!

I do hope u make
