At summer 1692 Richard the king of ghosts step on shore at Salem Massachutes. He had left from Southampton few monts ago and now he was at America. He was shocked to see how all the town's people were taken by witch hysteria. Neighbours blamed each others for bad luck and all other misfortunes which had fell upon them. Nobody seemed to know for sure who was a witch and who wasn't but there were few little girls who always knew who to blame. They pointed with their fingers the guilty ones and all the judges believed them.
Richard knew that they were wrong and he decided to do something to save even one soul. When he was watching Mary Joy's trial he decided to rescue her from being hanged. He wept in his heart that he wasn't able to save them all but if he could save even one soul it would be like a small triumph.
After the trial he waited for night fall and then he set her free from jail. Richard bought a horse as soon as he had entered to the town and now it would be their escape's transport. At first Mary wasn't sure if she should follow Richard or not but she didn't want to lose her life. Richard assured her that he will keep her safe and nothing bad will happen to her. Richard wasn't a puritan like Mary and it made her doubt him but his kind behaviour made Mary to change her attitide towards him.
He kept his promise and helped Mary to start anew life at New York which was far enough from Salem's madness...
