This is actually a sequel to a longer work, which I am currently in the process of writing. This has a double purpose: I find writing fiction is the best way to develop an RPG world.

Last Hero
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
Plains. Rain. Farmhouses. Rain. Wind. Fields. Rain. A few trees. Rain. This is the Morafian countryside in autumn. By the way, did we mention rain?
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
There was a man walking up the Cambria-Moraf road. To any ordinary onlooker, he was pretty much unremarkable. Observe him closely. He is wearing a long cloak, sopping wet at the moment, his head hooded. A lifetime before, that cloak might have even had a color, but it was now so bleached by weather and the sands of Syllus that it appeared to be a uniform shade of brown. Its edges were tattered, and it was patched in several places. Underneath it, the man had a thick tunic and woolen pants, these appearing much newer.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
The drizzle slowed gradually, and the man at last pulled his hood back. He was young, maybe thirty. His unkempt brown hair was plastered down his forehead in an untidy mess, partially obscuring his eyes. He brushed it back. His name happened to be Javin Kim, and he was the Last Hero.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
‘What a miserable little country,’ he muttered, and then he was walking again. His feet trudged heavily through the churned mud of the road, but his mind was elsewhere.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
The legend, or rather, legends of the Last Hero were old. It had been around for thousands of years. The elves had one. The werewolves had one. The trolls had one. In fact, most of the older races told their own version.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
In general, they went something like this: the Last Hero was also the First Hero. He fought against the evil that possessed the mortal world at the time, and later helped make a new beginning. But the evil was not gone, and it promised to come back when the world became weak. The Last Hero would be called upon again, so he had to find a key to immortality and quickly. In the end he solved the problem by choosing reincarnation. His soul would live on, passing from one body to another, until he was needed.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
And now Javin Kim was the Last Hero. That knowledge had cost him the lives of friends and he was… angry. Someone was going to pay.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
Glaeterdraum was what Amber had called it, before she died. It was known as Glitterdark to the locals. It was a place of darkness, ruled by something or someone called the Maeth, she had told him. It had been a wonderful place once, but now it was a nest of evil. More importantly it was a gate to the netherworld.      The gate by which his friends’ killers had entered.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.
He would go to the forest and rip its black heart out. He might die, but he had nothing left to live for in any case. Silently, through the pouring rain, Javin Kim swore death to the Maeth and destruction to the demongate.
The Last Hero was coming to Glaeterdraum.

You have captured a solid feeling of a miserable place in this one. For example the talking about rain is grate fun to read.

Ahh! This is fantastic! I love your use of words and repetition of sentences - it's perfect. This is exactly what a short story should be like. I am impressed, and glad I stopped by at random and got to read this. Now I feel inspired to write more stories of my own!
