SciFi and Fantasy Art F01: Athena Khan by Zachariah Campbell

''Athena is a top notch contender... young, but with the chops of a real pro. Rumour has it that she can trace her lineage back to the Ching Imperial line, directly to the the most famous Khan of all. Whether or not you believe in ancestral spirits, this young lady has the power moves to take her straight to the top.''

Another character, from my futuristic "fighting game" setting, where cyborgs and mutants duke it out with immortals and chi-powered super fighters. This is basically a real simple sketch dolled up in photoshop, and with some colour slapped on. Truth is though, I really like the way the colours came out in this one. Rough but still kind of nice and fluid.

Interesting character. Why has she no fingers? ++Murasaki no Ryuu++ Zachariah Campbell replies: "If this image were bigger, you'd probably be able to spot the slight digital touch to the colour, but you can get some very "authentic" effects with Photoshop.She doesn't have any fingers because she's basically a coloured sketch, and hands are easier to draw as a shape than as individual fingers. I did vaguely suggest the fingers in the colouring though... "
18 May 2004	Greek Bitch	Loading... Heyyy - doesn't look like Athena at all! Where's the owl for instance. Or the helmet or the aigis. OK, you wanna do a modern Athena, but keep some of the old characters still there so one can guess who she is... Zachariah Campbell replies: "Uh, maybe this should be obvious, but she's not supposed to be Pallas Athena.... her name is Athena Khan. Like, that's just her name. No goddess connection whatsoever.Y'know, like Apollo Creed in ROCKY wasn't a greek solar god and Venus Williams is just a tennis player. Helps to read the description for the pic though. "

Athena... pretty name... did you prehaps pick it up from the greek mythology godess Athena, the godess of... um, smartness? also, she sorta looks like she has two right hands, or is it two left... T_T ignore me crawls back into shell Zachariah Campbell replies: "I think the hand is confusing because, as noted above, I didn't draw any line detail for the fingers...As for the name, oddly enough there was no classical thought in my mind, though Athena , being also the Goddess of War, is an appropriate reference. I was actually passingly inspired to name her after Athena Chu, a Hong Kong actress of no great fame, but who appears in the CHINESE ODYSSEY movies (fave films of mine)."
