I do see the Gundam influence, but for a quick sketch liberally coloured in Photoshop. it became a very painted piece which for all things said, looks finished. I am especially wowed by the energy blade. I've appreciated your armour designs in Lothlorien and now I can envy your mecha design in Zone 47. Hey, could you give me some pointers if I ever try to draw mecha? -Green Zachariah Campbell replies: "Thanks Green! Hm... again I'll invoke the works of my old friend Ben, mecha-guru. Recipe for cool mecha: tiny heads, BIG shoulders, more organic (not boxy) forms. Invert this formula to draw transformers. "
| 11 Dec 2002 | Gregory P. Gibbons | Loading..."Wow, Zac- this guy is really cool. I like the fact that, with the mechanical aesthetic , you used a loose coloring sensibility, and created an illustration that still has the feel of the original sketch, that the color but heightened or added to the ambience that your fans are so familliar with..." Zachariah Campbell replies: "- Wait, my NSCAD mode is running. I'll disengage it, and..."Wow, Zac- this guy is really cool!"It's hard to shake sometimes isn't it? Though I'll confess I prefer "I like it because..." to just plain "I like it." " | |

( i think it was photo shop but not sure ) Zachariah Campbell replies: "Yeah, this was 100% Photoshop... believe it or not, it was all done with layers. I didn't actually digitally paint on any of the colours. There's a green overlay, some dodge-and-burn on the grey tonalities, the old "clouds" filter... even a cheesy lens-flare, which I used the "cutout" filter on to achieve the beam-saber effect. Fun stuff. "

| 19 Jun 2004 | Xanoth | Loading...I love the colouring, its conceptual in that its still a sketch, but with the use of colour it brings a whole lot more to the image.
Great style, and its a pretty cool mech too.
| 30 Sep 2004 | Vinnie Bartucci | Loading...this.....is.....the....best how do u draw manga/anime so good its especially hard for me to draw mechas 80 HOW DO U DO IT help me, pla gemmme so tips on mecha art Zachariah Campbell replies: "Uh...well, I'm really not so good at drawing mecha. I don't have a working formula. I just kind of mess around till something clicks. I've built a lot of gundams, so that gives me a mental inventory of parts and shapes that I can "steal" for something that I'm drawing. Generally, big shoulders and tiny heads look pretty good. Organic shapes I find easier than geometric shapes with lots of facets. Robots that imitate human musculature never really look right. Also, try not to draw robots like people with boxes all over them. That rarely works. " | |
