SciFi and Fantasy Art Rashasta: Ritual... by Zachariah Campbell

Rashasta is a recent D&D character of mine. He's a wandering priest of the Sengo-Shokin order, lone crusaders against evil spirits and the like. Unlike priests who worship one specific deity, Sengo-Shokins invoke various gods and immortals of the Celestial Court to aid in the dispersal and destruction of ghosts, demons, and other supernatural abberrations.

Sengo-Shokins are a stubborn, blustery, independent lot. Their rituals are often exotically theatrical, intricate and quite spectacular. However these arts, like the priests that use them, are loud, direct and uncompromising. Subtlety is not among their qualities.

Rashasta and his order is a liberal blend of influences, mainly Taoist-Shinto-Buddhist magic, CHINESE GHOST STORY, and Masamune Shirow's ORION, put through the anime blender.

Zachariah Campbell replies: "Heh. The lines are a bit sketchy because this is still a sketch...(I like sketches too!). I started playing with colour filters in Photoshop, and before I knew it, THIS happened! "

Very cool, though you'd think with all the attention to detail and the time it must have taken you to color this thing that you could have at least finished his hand Zachariah Campbell replies: "See, that's the funny part. This is still so much a sketch. Even the colouring is quick and dirty. Which hand do you mean? I can pretty safely say that his hands are as "finished" as any part of this picture, or moreso. I don't get you."
5 Feb 2005	Joey Hartline	Loading... Very nice! It does bring to mind the exorcists from the animated 'Chinese Ghost Story.' Do they have any power of their own or does it all come from their gods? Anyway, I've been meaning to talk to you lately about some things. Is your email address the same as it used to be or have you changed it? Zachariah Campbell replies: "Yo Joey! Good to hear from you.With this sect, it's not just that they get power from their gods, but that they have power -over- their gods... in this case various spirits, demons and Immortals. By invoking incantations, pacts, or names of other Gods, the Sengo Shokin priest can oblige spirits to aid them. Sometimes this is amicable, sometimes not. Besides that, many of them have become strong Chi users as well."
