The Murder, or Rook Demon, is a composite spirit, comprised of the restless souls of people murdered by fiendish or unholy means in the Balamo farmlands. The carrion crows feast upon the corpses of the violated victims, and become themselves corrupted by the demonic taint. The crows then flock together into a single organism, albeit one made up of hundreds of separate birds. This is a secondary demonic manifestation, a side effect of the other hauntings in the area, but it is a horrid beast nonetheless. It strikes in the early evening, heralded by the cackle of a huge murder of crows. Because it is a possession of animal forms, it may attack and be attacked physically. When it fully manifests, it takes the form of a towering, vaguely humanoid figure, some 10 feet tall, formed entirely out of quivering black wings, beaks and claws. At the center of it's mass, a single yellow eye, the size of a man's fist, stares out, mesmerizing those who look upon it.
It strikes by lashing out with its fluid 'limbs', pecking and tearing with hundreds of tiny beaks and talons that rip at exposed flesh and nip through openings in armour. These limbs are also strong enough to lift and throw a grown man with ease. The Murder may also disperse itself and reform, making it a very difficult creature to escape from. In this way, it may also “swarm” a victim, clustering it's mass around them completely. An unprotected human can be stripped to the bone in this way within minutes.
This nasty spirit was a creature I concocted for a recent fantasy RPG. I'm not sure where the idea came from... it just popped in there. It started as a really raw, dirty sketch, which I then photoshopped the heck out of to get this. I like it though...
