SciFi and Fantasy Art Tree God by Zachariah Campbell

An elven tree god... I kind of like the way that his gnarled root-like body and huge hands are sort of the opposite of how elves (and their gods) are often depicted.

This is another older one I liked, once again in my more flat, wonky, woodcut-style. Drawn in pencil, and given a parchment texture in photoshop (my current cheap trick).

...and yes, I cheated. On the original, his right hand ran off the page, so I just flipped his left hand and glued it on the other side. Yes, I am lazy.

24 Jan 2003	Kelli Doyle	Loading... A knot! Oh no, there's a knot in his ROBE! This looks like the bark of those white trees that flake alot, I don't know trees. But I love it. That parchment thing works well, I assume it to be the cloud filter with parchment-colors, or perhaps a few layers with tweaking. Anyway, I think it works, well, and this drawing is a lot different than what I'm used to from you; a breath of fresh air. Not to say that it's better; it's just different. Nice work- I love inkstuff. Zachariah Campbell replies: "Hmmm. Birch is the tree, and I wasn't thinking of birch, but now that you mention it, yeah.No cloud filter, but some dodging and burning in the layers (I used the cloud filter for my Nomad pic though...). Thanks for the good vibes. This is probably the oldest piece in this gallery. It totally represents my style from high school... flat and graphic, with an organic twist.Heehee... and I gotcha again... it's pencil! "

"
14 Feb 2003	Stephen the Small	Loading... It looks like a counterpoint to Jesus christ. It looks over-natural and not humble, but the long hair, spread arms, and robelike dress throw a haunting juxtaposition. Zachariah Campbell replies: "Wow! I can't believe I never noticed that before... but you're right. Of course the real Jesus probably looked less like a grunge rocker, and was supposedly crucified on a Roman cross (an X)... but the image is still there. Strange."
