You have a very good attitude about writing, particularly when it comes to incorporating what you know into stories. However, I don't think you should be afraid to write heroic fantasy, even if you view Tolkein as a superior writer. Don't ever back away from something because you feel it's been dominated, particularly when it comes to literature. Hope my little tidbit makes sense, I'm a little groggy right now. Good luck with your writings, I hope you do well with them. Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: "Of course you make sense, Abby. But fact is - good ol' Tolki does not only completely dominate, he also eliminated any need to create fantasy for me, at least the type that aims into the same direction of all-encompassing myth. Thanks for your wishes, I hope I will do well, although there is a constant fight about this with a demon in my head, the infamous demon of doubt (euphemistically called "inner critic" by some). Best wishes for your writings as well! "

For the majority, it's so much easier (i.e. less engaging for the little grey cells) to go through SF&F Art in a superficial way, without even wondering about the possible meanings behind a drawing. Your stories are much more demanding than that, they race the mind out of its daily laziness, so let the readers rest a bit before giving back their thoughts Remember that you do have the appreciation of some, and that Incubian Dreams has managed to frighten me, which says something. Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: " Hihi, thanks Remi. Being another brick in the wall of nightmares certainly has some honour. Aside, you're right. Reading is much too demanding, and in my all-dominating daily laziness I would not even read my own stories. "
| 2 May 2004 | A. Barbu aka Remi JK Lupin | Loading...Hahaha! Honestly, Peter, how could you hide your funny side so well? Couldn't help noticing the typical malicious side of the joke... but doesnt that make the joke more enjoyable? It reminds me of something about tripping over one's own legs Ever thought about writing something *extremely* ironic? In the style of a parody? The world is out there so we can make fun of it and you seem to own a very sharp Sword of Irony. Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: " Malicious? Me? Never! But you're right, the world is for making fun of it, and as a small reward I've left a nice little comment somewhere on your page. Parody, hmm... in some aspect all of the stories above could be considered as such. They are not, but they take them very serious. Too serious. Well, prob is, I loath cleaning my sword after a bloody battle, so the cause should better be worth it. In the meantime I will just continue sparring with those I like, be their defense up or not (preferably not ." | |
| 2 May 2004 | Toni J Kaukinen | Loading...I agree with the first commentor - stylish bio that makes the reader hope your prose has the same style... and it does, apparently. Welcome to the Woods, and thank you for commenting on my deranged AI/UI! I'm here to return the favour and to peek at what sort of person leaves me comments with thought in them. Elfwood needs more horror writers, I believe - myself, I'm much too flighty for that. Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: "Hey, thanks for your return visit, Toni! *rubs hands* Everything went according to the plan... find an unsuspecting victim, try to say something intelligent about his work, and lure him into the net...
Nah, I fell over your story rather by accident, maybe a mis-click, or so I believe... *gulp* Perfect, are you there?"
| 3 May 2004 | Adrian H. Wood | Loading...Very interesting bio, takes a locksmith and a scientist to unravel though hehe. And you're Bavarian! Despite having ended up at university in Manchester, for whatever insane reason, I am actually from Munich ya see. Anyways, I'm just popping in to say welcome to the 'Woods really and I promise I'll be back to read some of your stuff once I've gotten my head around the coursework I'm supposed to be doing! See ya! Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: "Slowly I begin to wish there was a Mod's Choice for bios ... but thanks for dropping in. Informally I will just threaten you with a return visit when I am in the mood. And don't forgot to bring this scientist and locksmith of yours if you should be heading back for the stories. " | |
| 18 Jun 2004 | A. Barbu aka Remi JK Lupin | Loading...Uhm... *feels increasingly nervous* That's remarkably unfair... first because I am the **would-be** linguist, and second, Latin was something, let's say, not exactly touched by us at school. So I am at a complete loss here, what's worse is that, sounding a lot like Italian, I get the nagging feeling of a familiar language, without understanding what it really says. Something like the first Men listening to Nom's harping I therefore leave myself at thy mercy with a translation. (Neat escape, isn't it?) Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: ""Sounds like italian", lol! Who ever said that Rumanian was a romanic language? Neat escape indeed. Well, by the grace of Nom, thou shalt have thy translation (are you working for the elfwood mods btw? ). It means, or rather I hope it means "artist by blood", and the rest is up to you..." | |
| 18 Jun 2004 | A. Barbu aka Remi JK Lupin | Loading...Hehe, I may be a little late on the updates, but it is inevitable for me to end up in this particular place of the woods So congrats on getting the 'me.jpg' up there. Oh, and what on earth does that Latin bit mean? Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: "Tis latin? I thought it was Rumanian! Joke aside, this is about what remains of my latin skills... c'mon, give it a try. You're the linguist, after all." | |
| 19 Jun 2004 | A. Barbu aka Remi JK Lupin | Loading...Despite the irony spears swung back and forth, I meant the part about the Italian (tested in RL with a song that I could somehow grasp but failed miserably at a literal translation). They all sound alike... I mean in one year I could move to the advanced French class because it sounded very natural, easy to grasp with Romanian my first language. Even now after four years of not practicing it I can still understand the spoken French (tested in Henry V). Latin however is still a mystery. Some words are impossible. Unfortunately I work for no other than my own demons, which is probably the worst job in Arda (they don't even pay!) Thanks for the enlightenment 'Artist by blood'? This requires some thinking indeed... Peter Schels a.k.a Dauphin replies: "Mysterious latin and demonic employment aside, thanks for swelling my comment count! " | |
